The Swordswomanโ€™s Revenge Story after Rebirth

Chapter 426: There Might Be a Way

When they returned to the estate, everything was in chaos. Jessica had brought all the medicines and oils from the manor, applying them to Natashaโ€™s forehead and philtrum, but Natasha didnโ€™t wake up. This left Garrett utterly shocked and confused.

He sat at the bedside, holding Natashaโ€™s hand, frozen in his place. Isolde, with tears streaming down her face, rushed over to check on Natasha. Seeing that her grandfather seemed unaware of the situation, she called her name a few times but got no response. Her legs buckled as she cried out, โ€œGrandfather, please donโ€™t scare me like this.โ€

Oliver, seeing this, gave Garrett a couple of slaps on the back of his head, bringing him back to his senses. Garrett stared blankly at Isolde, his eyes filled with pain and sorrow. โ€œIsoldeโ€ฆ your grandmotherโ€ฆ sheโ€™s not going to make it, I fearโ€ฆ this day has come.โ€

Isoldeโ€™s heart clenched with unbearable pain. How could she bear seeing her grandfather like this? His courage and strength had always come from the woman lying there before him. Now, with her passing, he seemed to have crumbled.

โ€œYouโ€ฆ you must call her. She needs to hear you; sheโ€™s always been so worried about you.โ€ Garrettโ€™s voice trembled as he pulled Isoldeโ€™s hand, begging her to call out to Natasha.

Isolde, with tears pouring from her eyes, gently cupped Natashaโ€™s face with both hands. โ€œDonโ€™t sleep, Grandma, wake up! Itโ€™s a beautiful sunny day; letโ€™s go outside and see the snow. Please, donโ€™t sleepโ€ฆ What will I do if you sleep? What will I do?โ€

Oliver held Isolde as she sobbed uncontrollably. He couldnโ€™t find the right words of comfort. Seeing Natasha in this state hurt him deeply, but what pained him most was seeing Garrettโ€™s helpless, lost expression. He sat there like a stone, unable to move or let go of Natashaโ€™s hand, fearing that if he did, it would be a final parting.

The abandoned ones were the ones who suffered the most. Natashaโ€™s maid brought over the medicine that Sadie had prepared earlier. It was a prescription for severe cases, either to prolong her life for a few more days or to ease her passing.

Isolde gently lifted Natasha and placed her sitting up against the headboard while Oliver tried to feed her the medicine. However, the moment it touched her lips, it began to trickle out from the corners of her mouth. She couldnโ€™t even swallow, her body too weak to respond.

Garrett, watching helplessly, suddenly choked out a sob, โ€œPlease drink it, drink it! This medicine will make you better, please drink it!โ€ He grasped her hand, pulling it gently, his voice hoarse, โ€œDrink it, open your eyes, look at meโ€ฆ just one more time, please.โ€

Oliver tried again, but the medicine still dripped out. Isolde, frantically trying to collect the liquid with her hands, felt her panic rise.

โ€œStop, donโ€™t force her,โ€ Garrett suddenly said, his voice red. The light in his eyes dimmed, turning to a dull gray. He slowly pulled Natasha back into his arms. โ€œSheโ€™s tired, let her rest for now. Sheโ€™s been fighting for so long. Let her sleepโ€ฆ Iโ€™ll stay with her. You all leave now.โ€

Isolde cried, not wanting to leave. Jessica, seeing Garrettโ€™s exhaustion, said, โ€œGarrett, why donโ€™t we brew another batch of medicine and try again?โ€

He suddenly lifted his head and glared at Jessica, his eyes red and wild, like an injured beast. โ€œNo! Donโ€™t trouble her anymore. Leave! All of you, out! Donโ€™t cry. Sheโ€™s still here. Sheโ€™s not gone yet.โ€

Oliver gently pulled Isolde toward the door. โ€œLetโ€™s step out for now, so Grandfather can be with her.โ€

Isolde tried to hold her ground, but with a final glance at the elderly couple tightly holding each other, her heart broke. Deathโ€ฆ it was so ruthless.

Oliver walked with her, guiding her outside. The others followed, and now, until Sadie arrived, there was nothing else they could do.

Isolde sat by the wall outside the house, curling up with her knees hugged to her chest. She wiped her tears, but they kept falling. Oliver sat beside her, wiping her eyes, rubbing her cold hands, holding her trembling body, yet saying nothing.

By evening, the Sharp family arrived with Sadie. Sadie glanced at Isolde but said nothing, walking straight into the room. Oliver immediately stood up, pulling Isolde with him as they followed everyone inside.

Seeing Sadie enter, Garrett slowly let go of Natasha, carefully moving away from the bed. Like a helpless child, he said, โ€œShe coughed up bloodโ€ฆ so much blood, and then she justโ€ฆ wouldnโ€™t wake up. She hasnโ€™t spoken a word to me sinceโ€ฆ Please, you have to help her.โ€

Sadie checked Natashaโ€™s breathing, and after a long, heavy sigh, she sat down at the bedside to take Natashaโ€™s pulse. After a few moments, her expression changed subtly.

Isoldeโ€™s legs buckled, and she almost collapsed. Oliver immediately steadied her, keeping her upright.

Sadie removed her hand from Natashaโ€™s wrist, not looking at anyone else. She only looked down and took out her needle pack. โ€œPrepare for her funeral,โ€ she said quietly. โ€œIt will be one or two days at most.โ€

The words were like a thunderclap, shattering everyoneโ€™s minds. Patricia, finally finding some composure, asked through her tears, โ€œButโ€ฆ didnโ€™t you say she had a month? Itโ€™s only been a few days!โ€

โ€œThe illness has progressed rapidly,โ€ Sadie explained with a heavy heart. โ€œHer breath is faintโ€ฆ itโ€™s unlikely sheโ€™ll make it through the night. Tonight, you should all stay with her. Iโ€™ll try acupuncture, see if I can wake her upโ€ฆ but if she doesnโ€™t wake upโ€ฆโ€

Garrettโ€™s face drained of color, and he was overcome with despair. โ€œIs there really no way?โ€ Isolde wiped her tears, asking desperately.

โ€œI canโ€™t do anything more,โ€ Sadie shook her head. A deep silence filled the room. If Sadie couldnโ€™t help, what hope did anyone else have?

But Oliver heard something in Sadieโ€™s words and immediately asked, โ€œYou canโ€™t help, but someone else can, right?โ€

Sadie paused before finally answering, โ€œItโ€™s not that someone can help, itโ€™s just that there might be a chanceโ€ฆ but it depends on her.โ€

โ€œWho?โ€ Isolde grabbed Sadieโ€™s hand, her eyes wide with urgency. โ€œTell me, who has the chance to help her?โ€

Sadie hesitated, clearly reluctant to answer. โ€œDonโ€™t ask, it may not even work. If it goes wrong, someone could lose their life.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not afraid. Tell me. Please, tell me,โ€ Isolde pleaded, her voice trembling.

โ€œYes, tell us!โ€ the Sharp family echoed, eager to know.

Garrett, his voice low and serious, said, โ€œYou all leave. Iโ€™ll ask her myself.โ€

Oliver quickly pulled Isolde aside. โ€œNo one is to follow. Iโ€™ll speak with her.โ€

Isolde tried to follow, but Oliver ordered Hattie and Hazel to stop her. Hattie quickly moved to block Isolde, saying, โ€œLet Garrett ask first. Once we know the answer, weโ€™ll discuss it together. You need to stay calm.โ€
