The Swordswomanโs Revenge Story after Rebirth
Chapter 71: William Courts Trouble
When Margaret returned to her room, William was much calmer. He sat in a chair, properly dressed, drinking coffee. Sarah had also been helped back to her room. Lily Dyer, Margaretโs maid, had already informed Sarah about what happened. Sarah arrived with a pale face.
Margaret didnโt blame Sarah. She only asked about her injury. โIs it serious? How did this happen?โ
Sarah said, โYou told me to go to Montgomery Chamber to get Mr. Valen, so I did. But before I arrived, a black cat jumped out of nowhere. I was so shocked that I sprained my ankle and fell. It was Mrs. Eleanorโs maid, Moriah, who carried me back to my room.โ
โYouโve been tricked!โ Margaret said coldly. โHow could there be a black cat in the middle of the night?โ
Sarah said hatefully, โI didnโt mean to fail this time.โ
William was stunned. โMother, whatโs going on? How is it a trap? Why did Eleanor use a black cat to scare Sarah?โ
Margaret looked at William. โDo you know why I asked you not to go over last night?โ
William said, โI know. You donโt like Eleanor.โ
Margaret said indifferently, โI donโt like her? I just donโt give a damn about her. Itโs because she only recently had a miscarriage that you shouldnโt sleep with her so soon. If anything were to happen and she couldnโt bear children in the future, sheโd be utterly useless.โ
Margaret had never been so blunt, but she was probably extremely angry.
โSo I made a big mistake tonight. I shouldnโt have done this,โ William said shamefully.
โIt has nothing to do with you.โ Margaret looked at him reproachfully. โShe drugged her room. No man could resist it. Itโs just a small trick women use. You must get it. How can you fall for it so easily?โ
Williamโs expression changed drastically. โYou mean she set me up?โ
โThatโs right,โ Sarah replied. โMrs. Eleanor invited you for a meal, but Mrs. Margaret happened to see it. She was afraid something would happen, so she instructed me to get you to go back. Little did she know that I would be so shocked by the cat they arranged that I fell. Thatโs why they succeeded.โ
โEleanor,โ William gritted his teeth, โI thought I hurt her. I didnโt expect her to be responsible for her own suffering. How did she become like this? In the past, I thought she was quiet and much better than Isolde.โ
When Margaret heard this, her eyebrows twitched. โDonโt say that. Isolde isnโt any better.โ
โIn any case, Isolde is better than Eleanor.โ William pondered for a moment and remembered Isoldeโs attitude towards him. He frowned. โIsoldeโs not good either. Theyโre all birds of the same feather.โ
โDonโt mention Isolde again,โ Margaret said in disgust.
Seeing Margaret losing her temper, William dared not say anything else. He was secretly furious. William fumed. Isolde doesnโt know what is good for her. Iโd like to see who she will marry.
The doctor came to treat Eleanor. He prescribed a few medicines and left. Lily was outside waiting for him. โMrs. Margaret wants to see you.โ
The doctor followed Lily to the Dayon Room. Margaret stood and curtsied slightly. โTake a seat, please.โ
The doctor bowed. โMrs. Margaret, no need for that. Iโll leave after saying a few words.โ
โHow is Eleanor?โ she asked. Margaretโs invitation for the doctor to sit was not sincere, but a show of politeness.
The doctor frowned and said, โShe was already weak. Now that sheโs further injured, she wonโt be able to have children in the future.โ
Margaretโs face was ashen, but she maintained her politeness. โAlright, thank you. Lily, send the doctor out. Double the consultation fee.โ
Lily nodded, got the money, and sent the doctor out. She instructed softly, โMrs. Margaret doesnโt want what happened in the family to get out.โ
The doctor was tactful and took his payment. โMiss, donโt worry. I understand.โ
After the doctor left, Margaretโs face darkened. โGet Samiyah to come tomorrow morning.โ
William was furious. Now, no matter what the truth was, if word got out, outsiders would only say that he couldnโt wait to get into Eleanorโs bed and cause her infertility.
When Samiyah found out about this, she naturally didnโt dare to come over. She only ordered servants to send many supplements over and said she would visit Eleanor in a few days.
This matter would be over, but William got drunk and went to the Dukeโs estate to look for Isolde.
Isolde had just returned from Paletein Manor when she saw William at the door. Isolde walked up and asked, โWhy are you here?โ
William turned around. His eyes were red with hatred. Even the servant beside him couldnโt stop him. William rushed over and stared at Isolde. โItโs all your fault. If it werenโt for you, all those things wouldnโt have happened at the estate.โ
โSo many things?โ Isoldeโs expression was calm as she stared at the man she had loved for five years. The more she looked at William, the more he felt like a coward. She asked, โDid someone die? Did the mansion collapse? If not, itโs not a big deal. You are the Marquisโs son. You shouldnโt fall apart over minor setbacks. If your resilience is this weak, how will you ever inherit the Marquisโs title in the future?โ
โWhat do you know?โ William didnโt expect Isolde to be so mean. His anger rose as he pointed at her and scolded angrily, โEleanor canโt have children anymore because of you. Are you happy? Youโve always hated her because I didnโt choose you and was with her instead, right? I just donโt like you. You country bumpkin, you bitch!โ
โCountry bumpkinโ and โbitchโ were the most vicious curses William could think of.
Isolde smiled meaningfully. โShe canโt have children? Of course, Iโm happy. Why wouldnโt I be? Those with bad morals deserve retribution. You better donโt drink so much and watch your step. Iโll be even happier if you fall down and die.โ
โYou vicious bitch!โ Williamโs chest was about to explode. He raised his hand to hit her.
Isolde moved her face closer to him. โDo you want to hit me? Look at how many people are watching. Go on, hit me. Let everyone see what a lowlife you are!โ
William glanced around and indeed saw nearly a dozen onlookers standing outside. The Dukeโs estate faced the street. If they quarreled at the door, it would definitely attract attention.
William was only half drunk. He couldnโt let go of his anger and didnโt know who to vent it on. He hated Isolde, so he came over without thinking.
Now that he saw there were people watching, he couldnโt stand to embarrass himself. He flew into a rage out of humiliation and said fiercely to those people, โWhat are you looking at? Get lost!โ
Everyone was gossiping about him right before him.
Isolde sneered and strode into the estate. She ordered the servant to close the gate.
William said angrily, โIsolde, youโll definitely regret it. Letโs see who wants a wild girl like you.โ
The door closed slowly, shutting out William and his curses.
