The Swordswomanโs Revenge Story after Rebirth Chapter 82: Escape from Prison
Doug nodded in agreement. โOliverโs personality is indeed as you described. Heโs not in a hurry. Heโs about to be assigned to Wetinson to eliminate the raiders. His marriage will have to wait until he returns.โ
Stunned, Isolde asked, โHeโs going to Wetinson to eliminate the raiders?โ
โYes,โ Doug replied. โThe Marquis of Eldermere won a great victory. The Thalvinarians who infiltrated previously fled to Wetinson, causing great trouble for the locals. There werenโt many troops stationed there, so the army couldnโt subdue the Thalvinarians. Hence, the Ministry of War submitted a report, requesting the King to send Oliver to fight.โ
Isolde recalled the same incident happening before she traveled back in time. However, it was another marshal, James Smith, who was sent to eliminate the raiders. James never returned from that battle; he was plotted against and assassinated by bandits. Isolde wondered why Oliver was the one to fight this battle this time.
Isoldeโs head was in a mess. Logically, it was understandable that the King appointed Oliver. However, it was suspicious that the Ministry of War directly requested Oliver in their report to the King.
Seeing Isoldeโs confusion, Doug explained nonchalantly, โOliver was conferred the title of Great Marshal. Of course, some generals in the court dislike him. They feel that Oliver relied on the Marquis of Eldermereโs support to begin with. Not everyone approves of Oliverโs ability, so they want him to lead 1000 men to fight the raiders to prove himself.โ
โ1000 men?โ Isolde exclaimed, frowning. โIf only 1000 men are needed to fight the raiders, why doesnโt the court just send troops from the Wetinson military camp?โ
Isolde found it ridiculous to send only 1000 men all the way from Argentum to Wetinson. The King had always been wise. She wondered what had prompted him to agree to such a bizarre request from the Ministry of War.
Doug said calmly, โThe King has his plans.โ
Isolde immediately knew the King didnโt send Oliver to Wetinson just to fight the raiders. He most likely assigned Oliver other secret missions; fighting the raiders was merely a cover.
โWhen is he leaving?โ Isolde asked.
Doug replied, โAbout half a month later.โ
This further confirmed Isoldeโs guess.
Two days later, when Oliver was delivering medicine to Isolde, she asked about it. โGreat Marshal,โ she began, โI heard youโre going to Wetinson to subdue the bandits?โ
Oliver raised his eyebrows. โYes. Did Doug tell you this?โ
โYes.โ Isolde stared at him. After a moment of silence, she said, โGreat Marshal, your trip to Wetinsonโฆโ
Oliver said, โThank you for reminding me.โ
Isolde said seriously, โIโm serious. Be careful of the raidersโ traps. Things that seem harmless might be the most dangerous.โ
Oliver initially thought Isolde was giving him generic advice. However, she emphasized her point. With a serious expression, Oliver said solemnly, โAlright. Iโll remember your advice.โ
Only then did Isolde relax. Believing that Oliver was much smarter and more cautious than Marshal Smith, she convinced herself her worries might be groundless.
Oliver said, โBy the way, when I arrived just now, I saw Samiyah was also here. She said she was looking for Matilda.โ
โSamiyah was looking for Matilda?โ Isolde narrowed her eyes and thought aloud, โWhatโs the point of meeting Matilda when she should be asking others for help?โ
At the very least, Matilda was unlikely to be able to save Milton.
โIs Milton being held in Southern Watch?โ Isolde asked.
Oliver shook his head. โHe has been transferred to the jail at Inspector High Court of Parliament. This case is being investigated as an embezzlement case, so heโll have his first hearing at the Inspector High Court of Parliament.โ
Isolde combed through everything in her mind. Then, she smiled knowingly. She had figured out Miltonโs next step, and it most likely worked in her favor.
โGreat Marshal,โ Isolde said, โplease go back and tell Doug to find me more men. Hurry up and send them over within these two days.โ
Oliver also felt that Isolde needed more bodyguards in her house, especially now that Vincenzo was not around. After thinking for a moment, he said, โI donโt know who Doug wants to recommend to you, but I have some suitable candidates. Iโll bring them over tomorrow for you to meet them.โ
When Isolde heard that Oliver wanted to send someone over, she said, โIf youโre feeling generous, I really want to ask you for two of your men. Donโt worry. I wonโt keep them forever. When things are settled, Iโll return them to you. I wonโt snatch your capable underlings from you.โ
Oliver asked, โWho do you want?โ
Isolde replied, โThe Goodwin sisters.โ
Oliver smiled. โI was thinking of them too.โ
Isolde was very grateful. โThank you!โ
Oliver looked Isolde in the eye. โGet better quickly. Iโll wait for you to treat me to a drink.โ
โAlright,โ Isolde grinned. โIn less than five days, weโll be able to drink together. Weโll even be able to drink to our heartโs content!โ
Sensing something, Oliver urged, โIf anything happens, tell me. Do not put yourself at risk.โ
Isolde promised, โAlright. Iโll tell you.โ
The next day, Oliver sent the Goodwin sisters over. The two were Oliverโs maids; they looked ordinary, even weak. However, Isolde had seen their fighting skills before she traveled back in time and was utterly shocked at their prowess. No one would have guessed how skillful they were unless they started attacking others.
โFrom now on, you two will follow Miss Langley and protect her well,โ Oliver instructed Hattie and Hazel.
The girls replied, โUnderstood.โ
They stood in front of Isolde and greeted her, โGreetings, Miss Langley.โ
Isolde looked at them as if she had obtained treasure. She respected capable people from the bottom of her heart.
Life was peaceful for Isolde for the next three to four days. Aside from Harlan occasionally coming over to update Isolde about the Duke of Blackmoorโs meeting with Raine, Isolde enjoyed her peace.
This morning, Oliver rushed over with a solemn expression.
โWhat happened?โ Isolde asked.
โYou should stay at home for the time being,โ Oliver said. โMilton escaped from prison.โ
Isolde asked, โHow did he escape?โ
Oliver reported, โLast night, he killed two jailers and escaped. He was unarmed, but the lock was pried open. The murder weapon he used was a poison needle.โ
Isoldeโs expression turned slightly strange. โHe killed two people?โ
โYes.โ Oliver studied Isoldeโs expression and was suspicious. โArenโt you surprised at all? Were you expecting him to escape?โ
Isolde paused for a moment. โHow would I know?โ
Oliver thought about it. Indeed, no one would have guessed that Milton, who had admitted to his crimes, would escape from prison.
Oliver advised, โAnyway, be careful. He hates you and will definitely seek revenge on you.โ
Isolde said, โDonโt worry. He wonโt be so stupid. Now that he has escaped from prison, he will definitely hide somewhere. He wonโt be showing himself to me openly. Whatโs the point of escaping from prison if he appears publicly?โ
Oliver was not that optimistic. He warned, โHe is cunning. Better be safe than sorry.โ
โAlright, I know. Donโt worry,โ Isolde nodded.
Oliver thought for a moment and suggested, โHow about this? Iโll assign a few more people to protect you.โ
โWith Hattie and Hazel around, do I still need anyone else?โ Isolde chuckled.
Oliver looked at her in surprise. โYou know that they know martial arts?โ
Isolde smiled. โIf I didnโt know, would I have asked you for them?โ
Oliver said, โThatโs true. Doug must have told you about them.โ
Isolde smiled without saying anything else. Hattie and Hazel were the daughters of a subordinate of Douglas Valois. Douglas had saved this subordinate before. After Douglas and their father died in battle together, Hattie and Hazel pledged their loyalty to Oliver.
