Chapter 127
Caden's expression hardened. Alicia paused, then explained, “In college, during a checkup, the doctor complimented me during the breast exam.”
“A male doctor?” Caden asked.
“Of course not. That would be inappropriate, wouldn’t it?” Alicia replied.
Caden visibly relaxed. He adjusted his clothes and recounted the day's events seriously. “Should I help Gina? What do you think?” he asked.
Caden appreciated her seeking his opinion; it showed trust. “Do you want to help her?” he asked.
“Yes,” Alicia said, her sympathy evident. “Harley is her only family. It’s very sad.”
“Then help her,” Caden replied. “She’s a better choice than Rachel.”
Alicia sighed with relief and smiled. “I should go to the hospital. Harley’s still awaiting surgery,” she said. “I’ll cover the costs. You take care of Randolph and get him to talk.”
As she stood, Caden gently restrained her. "When do you plan to deal with this?" he asked.
Alicia quickly withdrew her hand, feeling the weight of his demand. “We’ll see,” he replied. It was broad daylight; he wasn't inclined to continue. “Take less medication and get some rest.”
Caden remained silent. With Harley’s life at stake, Alicia acted swiftly, seeking Gina. To conceal her identity from Lilliana’s associates, she had Caden create a fake philanthropist persona to fund Harley’s surgery. Alicia remained unseen throughout the operation, present but discreet.
Nightfall brought the operation's end; Harley was wheeled out on a stretcher. Gina rushed forward. “Doctor, how’s Harley?”
"Fortunately, the surgery was timely. He's out of danger," the doctor said.
Gina’s knees buckled; she wept. From a corner, Alicia breathed a sigh of relief. By the time Gina settled Harley into his room, it was late.
After some hesitation, Alicia approached Gina. The night air was cold; Alicia rubbed her hands together for warmth. “How’s Harley?” she asked.
Gina stared at her a moment. "I will repay your medical expenses in installments. Thank you for your help," Gina said, her voice filled with gratitude.
This caused Alicia a pang of disappointment. Siding with Alicia meant opposing Lilliana. Gina accepting help meant defying Lilliana, which could have serious consequences.
“There’s no need to repay me. It was a donation,” Alicia said. “I’m glad the operation went well. That’s all that matters.”
After a pause, Alicia added, "I'm going now. You should rest."
Gina’s eyes welled. "Mrs. Bennett, please stop. The Green family is too powerful, and Mr. Yates is ruthless. He's not worth it."
Alicia laughed softly. “I’m not doing this for reward. I’m doing it to survive.”
When Alicia left, Gina stood in the cold hallway, crying silently. Fear paralyzed her; she couldn't help Alicia. Gina hated Lilliana, but she had a sick sister and a job to protect.
Numb, Gina returned to the living room. A knock came; expecting the doctor, she was surprised to find a delivery man. He handed her an expensive meal. Gina was confused. “I didn’t order anything.”
"Mrs. Bennett ordered it for you," the delivery man explained.
Gina’s heart sank. She thanked him and held the box.
After the hospital, Alicia visited Monica. To cheer her up, Monica took her to a new themed coffee shop with male models dressed as valets.
“Butlers?” Alicia asked, confused.
“Valets,” Monica replied enthusiastically. “Male models dressed as valets, serving us. We can eat, drink, and enjoy their company.”
Alicia was speechless before deciding to leave. Turning, she collided with a valet carrying a cake. He caught her gently. He had curly hair, a charming smile, and sparkling eyes. “Careful, madam,” he said.
Alicia was stunned, gazing at his face. Monica laughed. “They’re not bad, are they?”
Alicia smiled weakly. “They must have cost a pretty penny,” she said, noting the valet’s tall, well-built physique. “Male models in clubs are expensive.”
“It’s a new place, and I got a discount. It’s not that expensive,” Monica said, pulling Alicia along. “Come on, it’s just fun. Nothing serious.”
Monica dragged Alicia inside. Besides the attractive valets, the food was impressive. The valets were attentive, adapting to preferences; flirting if sensed, otherwise focusing on service. Alicia only briefly touched a few hands and faces.
After eating, a valet walked her to the door. “If you enjoyed my company, ask for another visit,” he said, writing his name on his palm. “I hope to see you again.”
Alicia felt shy. “Of course.” He said it knowing he wouldn't return. Who could resist such charm?
Noticing their chemistry, Monica cleared her throat. “Alicia, I have to go. Let me know when you get home.” She winked, subtly encouraging Alicia.
Alicia pretended not to notice, saying goodbye. A short distance away, a Maybach's window rolled down, revealing Caden's smirking face as he watched Alicia's fascination.
