Chapter 155
Joshua investigated Gina's background, discovering the funds for Harley's operation came from an anonymous benefactor. He found no relevant information, a frustratingly unexpected result.
Observing his intensity, Lilliana remarked coldly, “You're especially meticulous when Alicia is involved. I didn't know you cared so much about her.”
Joshua lowered his phone. He needed to appear patient and kind, regardless of his exhaustion. "With everything happening, how could I focus on anything else? I just want to get through this with you."
Disappointment clouded Lilliana's eyes. "You only appreciate me when you're in trouble," she sneered. "Didn't you consider the consequences of sneaking around with Alicia?"
Lilliana's fury ignited when she discovered Alicia at the Yates mansion. Though Joshua calmed her, the situation festered. He reassured her, "Alicia approached me. When I didn't respond, she turned to Caden. You know that."
Lilliana forcefully pushed him away. "Do you think I'm a child?" She questioned Alicia's prolonged stay at the mansion without his permission.
Lilliana always understood Joshua's complex nature—his intelligence and ruthless ambition—but she couldn't accept it directed against her.
"From now on, we'll sleep in separate rooms," he announced. "You can be with whoever you want. I won't mind."
A flicker of hope ignited in Joshua. He hugged her tightly. "You're pregnant. How can I let you sleep alone? I'd be so worried. Honey, I love you, and only you."
Lilliana remained impassive. "Joshua, if you truly love me, prove it. Do you understand?"
Joshua attempted reassurance. "Once the company crisis is resolved, I'll spend every moment with you, I promise."
Lilliana looked at him coldly. "Don't you know what frustrates me most?"
Joshua paused, knowing the answer. After a moment, he gently caressed her cheek. "Tell me, what do you think should happen to Alicia?"
Lilliana's expression softened. Tiptoeing, she whispered in his ear. His pupils dilated slightly, and he smiled. "It's a simple solution. When I succeed, I'll leave it to you."
A surge of triumph lifted Lilliana's spirits. "When I feel better, I'll ask my father for money. If you want to solve your problems quickly, keep me happy. Understand?"
Joshua scoffed inwardly. What right did she have to threaten him? He remained silent, focusing on her lower abdomen.
The Green family, fiercely protective of Lilliana and her child, would necessitate more drastic measures. Joshua subtly added medication to Lilliana's supplements. Soon, she was hospitalized with a threatened miscarriage.
Chaos engulfed the Green family. Concern poured forth. Lilliana cried inconsolably while Joshua comforted her. Cedric's anxiety was palpable.
I pulled Joshua aside. Before Cedric could speak, Joshua took the blame. "Cedric, it's my fault. Lilliana's worry almost caused a miscarriage."
Cedric frowned. Unable to contain his anger, he harshly reprimanded Joshua. Joshua accepted it without complaint. "Cedric, if it helps, hit me."
Cedric, recognizing Lilliana's love for Joshua, knew striking him would only cause her pain. He asked, "How much do you need?"
Satisfaction flickered in Joshua's eyes. "Cedric, I'll manage. I don't want your money."
Cedric scoffed. "Stop joking. Tell me."
"A billion dollars would be perfect," Joshua replied.
Cedric's expression changed. Caden's actions had strained his finances. "I can offer 100 million," he stated firmly. "The rest is your responsibility."
Joshua was speechless. After his efforts, he had only secured 100 million. "Thank you, Cedric," he said respectfully.
With Green family funding secured, it was time for the Yates family. Jerald, upon hearing the full story, reacted dramatically, immediately calling Caden. "Good for you, Caden! Joshua is your brother! How could you betray him? Give him his money back or you'll regret it!"
