Chapter 284:
Men were highly susceptible to beauty, especially when captivated at first sight. This was certainly true for the man watching Alice reluctantly depart; he wasn't ready to let her go. Caden fiddled with his lighter, his cold eyes assessing the other man. How dare that bastard lust after Alicia?
As if sensing Caden's scrutiny, the man turned, offering a warm smile. "Ah, Mr. Ward. Would you like some company?"
Caden rose to leave without reply. Alicia stood before a display case, smiling as Monica tried on jewelry. Monica's eyes lit up as she selected an emerald necklace; her delight was evident to all. Alice immediately went to pay.
Caden watched, his expression thoughtful. Had he misjudged the situation? Alicia didn't appear upset. Indeed, he almost felt the Averibon incident hadn't occurred.
The man from earlier approached. Caden knew he was also watching Alicia. “Miss Bennett is truly extraordinary,” the man murmured dreamily.
“Don’t you have anything better to do?” Caden snapped, his irritation evident.
The man shifted his weight, torn between admiration and apprehension of Caden. Yet, faced with romantic competition, he refused to yield. "I can admire Miss Bennett while I'm here," he replied boldly.
Caden frowned. “She’s mine. Don't you understand?”
The man knew this, but refused to acknowledge it. “Is that so? Miss Bennett seemed rather cool towards you earlier. She didn't even want to spend your money.” His tone sharpened. “Though, I am impressed, Mr. Ward. Not every man tames his girlfriend to such consideration.”
Caden felt a sharp pang at the word "girlfriend," an uncomfortable sensation that made him want to bolt.
