Caden didn't detail the breakup, but Ciara understood the situation. If Caden had moved on, it seemed he and Alicia were truly finished. Ciara voiced her concern. "What about your health? Are you planning to live alone for the rest of your life?"

Caden shrugged indifferently. "I won't die just because I don't have a woman."

"Fool," Ciara replied, her tone heavy. "If you were so adept at solitude, why does your mother's memory still affect you so profoundly? How many more years do you think I'll be around?"

Caden's eyes flickered shut. "Grandma, if you can't offer comfort, please don't say anything."

Ciara gently took his hand. "Alicia is a wonderful woman, and I can see you care deeply for her. Why not try again?"

Caden's face darkened, and he remained silent. Raised with a strong sense of pride, he wouldn't beg. Alicia had completely lost faith in him; leaving her was the kindest option. And he had done just that.

Caden frowned. "No need. I've already reacted."

Caden's response was blunt: "Nausea."

The doctor looked confused. "That doesn't sound typical..."

Caden's voice dropped to a whisper. "Just get to the point. Have you discovered another condition? Something like cancer?"

The doctor paused, then cautiously suggested, "Let's be direct. How about a practical test? It will only take a few minutes of your time, Mr. Ward."

Caden nodded slightly.
