Chapter 450
Caden smoothly explained, โThey had a rough night. Feeling a bit shy today.โ Ciara waved off his explanation, too delighted to care. Gently lifting the cloth, her face lit up. โI missed you so much in just one night.โ But as she saw what was inside, her smile froze. Her eyes widened in shock.
Caden, unfazed, flashed a charming smile. โThose eyes of yoursโthey make you look thirty again.โ
Ciara huffed, clearly unamused. She pointed angrily at the birdcage. โEnough with the flattery! And what is that?โ
Caden glanced at the cage. Inside, the bird stood beside a small sculpture of another bird. Keeping a straight face, he replied smoothly, โIsnโt that your precious bird? When did it become a โthingโ?โ
Ciaraโs eyes narrowed, her finger jabbing toward the sculpture. โIโm asking about that! What is that?โ
โA bird,โ Caden replied, without missing a beat.
Ciaraโs face reddened with exasperation. โA bird? Thatโs supposed to be a bird?โ
Caden shrugged. โSure, it might not move, but technically, itโs still a bird.โ
Rendered speechless, Ciara clutched her chest, almost wanting to call for Jasmine and her oxygen tank. Caden quickly helped her into a chair. โAt your age, you really shouldnโt get so worked up. Look on the bright sideโwhile it might not be as lively as the original, itโs sure to last longer. Take good care of it, and it might stick around for a hundred years.โ
Ciara shot him an icy glare. โThen why donโt you get me a tortoise instead?โ
Caden nodded, unfazed. โIf thatโs what youโd prefer, I can have a few sent over.โ
Ciaraโs mouth fell open in disbelief. She snatched up her cane and gave him a swift swat.
โOw!โ Caden yelped, wincing.
Ciara paused, momentarily surprised. โI didnโt hit you that hardโฆ did it really hurt?โ
Caden replied with a smirk, โI was faking it.โ
Ciara was left speechless, her frustration mounting as Caden left Joy Mansion and climbed into his car. Alicia, who had been waiting, immediately leaned forward, brimming with curiosity. โSo, did Ciara get mad?โ
Caden smoothed a wrinkle on his shirt. โOh, she was thrilled. Stood right up to praise me.โ He paused, recalling the painful โpraiseโ heโd received.
Alicia raised an eyebrow, unconvinced. โNo way. Are you telling me Ciara didnโt hit you?โ
Caden grinned. โHow could she bring herself to hit such a good grandson?โ
With that, he started the engine and drove Alicia to the gallery. When they arrived, he remained in the car as she unbuckled her seatbelt. Just as she was about to step out, he called, โCome home early tonight. I just learned to make a dessert. Iโll make it for you.โ
