Chapter 564

Casually, Caden asked Aylin, "Why is there a cup missing?"

Aylin was startled, her eyes darting nervously. "Mr. Ward…"

Caden sensed something was amiss. "Tell me the truth."

Aylin, deeply respectful of Benedict, knew he had broken the cup. She realized Caden's discovery was inevitable and reluctantly confessed.

Caden's expression immediately turned cold. He left the Joy Mansion without a word. As long as he could remember, despite Benedict's notorious temper, he would never have considered striking a woman. Furthermore, the animosity between Benedict and Alicia seemed less profound than it appeared; he harbored only a slight prejudice against her. But what had happened that day to incite such fury in Benedict?

Caden slid into his car and called Alicia. Her tone was indifferent when she answered. "What's the matter?" She spoke as if he had committed a grave offense.

Caden's voice was deep. "I just learned my uncle smashed a cup in front of you that day. Were you hurt?"

A heavy silence followed. When she finally spoke, it was clear she was concealing something. "No, he was merely trying to scare me."

Caden pressed, "What exactly happened that day?"

Alicia replied instinctively, "Since you already know what he did, why not ask him? Aren't you worried I'll intentionally cause trouble between you two?"

Caden inhaled deeply. "Alicia, please talk to me honestly."

Her chuckle followed his commanding tone. "Sorry. I lack the manners to speak nicely."

Caden insisted, "I want to resolve this, so I need the truth."

Alicia sighed in exasperation. They were a couple, not business partners. "Resolve this, sort that out…" That's all he ever seemed to think about. In bed, he was passionate, but during arguments, he became cold and distant, devoid of warmth.

Alicia decided to reveal everything. "I argued with your uncle because he looked down on me and insisted I step aside for Yolanda. I told him he was unreasonable, insincere, and indecent. He flew into a rage, smashing a cup, and declared that as long as he lived, I'd never be your wife. So, Caden, who was really wrong? Was it me? Should I have simply bowed to your uncle and given you to Yolanda?"

Alicia finished, panting slightly.
