Chapter 567
Alicia cupped her chin, pondering. โCoreyโs assistant emailed about that, but I declined because of Caden.โ
Monica nodded. โI figured. Helping Corey would be like betraying Caden. Itโs not worth it.โ
Alicia snorted. Then again, Corey was cunning and deceitful. Cornered, there was no telling what desperate measures he might take. She needed to be prepared.
โMonica, letโs invite Mr. Hopkins when we go out later. I need to discuss something with him.โ
Gerry, an expert in the finer things, arrived promptly after their call. Alicia had rented a small villa for their barbecue. A pool sat beside the grill, and a band played on a platform at the far end of the backyard. The villa staff handled the meal. Gerry scrutinized the unlabeled bottle. โIt looks familiar.โ
Alicia chuckled. โDonโt worry, just pour yourself a glass. Itโs excellent.โ
Gerry needed no further encouragement. He uncorked the bottle, inhaled its aroma, and sighed. โAmazing, Alicia. Where did you get it?โ
โSome annoying guy gave it to me,โ she replied lightly.
Gerry peered at her. โWhy do I feel like youโre talking about Caden?โ
Alicia ignored him, offering him a grilled chicken wing.
Gerry blinked. โWhy are you so nice to me today?โ
Alicia shrugged, smiling demurely. โArenโt we supposed to be nice to our friends?โ But the mischievous glint in her eyes didnโt escape Gerry.
โThen why arenโt you this nice to Cliff?โ
Cliff, about to eat a vegetable, silently slipped away, avoiding potential drama.
Gerry shifted uncomfortably. โI know Iโm incredibly handsome,โ he quipped, โbut youโre with Caden. Letโs avoid any drastic mistakes.โ
