Ivy let out a cold laugh. โWell, at least youโre finally telling the truth.โ
Emma fell silent, unable to meet her gaze.
Since Emma was finally admitting things, Ivy seized the chance to lay out every one of her misdeeds. โYouโre the one who spread those rumors, right? That I had HIV, that I was carrying some old manโs child, and that the baby would be a disabled idiotโthose were your lies, werenโt they?โ
At first, Emma kept her mouth shut.
But Rosetta fixed her with a hard stare and snapped, โSpeak up! Donโt forget the promises you made to me!โ
Emma, terrified of being thrown out, clenched her teeth and held out a moment longer before finally mumbling, โI did see those filesโฆbut I wasnโt exactly sure it was you.โ
Ivy exhaled slowly, her face settling into a bitter smile. She was done arguing with Emma. Instead, she turned to Rosetta.
โWell, now sheโs confessed in her own words. And you still want to call her your daughter? What about the way you treated me beforeโso cruel, so pitiless?โ Ivyโs voice trembled with anger as she looked at her parents. She couldnโt help but lash out.
Rosettaโs face grew troubled. She glanced at Emma, then at Ivy, completely torn.
Emma, afraid sheโd be kicked out any second, grabbed Rosettaโs sleeve in panic. โMom! I really am sorry. You can yell at me, punish meโanythingโbut please donโt send me away. I canโt leave this house. If you force me out, Iโd rather be dead!โ
Rosetta resented Emma too, but the thought of turning her outโwhen the girl might actually do something drasticโmade her hesitate. In the end, she pleaded with her eldest daughter instead.
โIvy, Emma isnโt like you. She canโt survive out there on her own. And she truly regrets what sheโs done. Canโt you just give her another chanceโฆโ
Ivy stared at her, suddenly losing her appetite. She set her fork down. โSo huh? Youโre just going to keep protecting her? Fine, then. Keep it up. But donโt expect me to ever come back to this family.โ
She stood up.
Chapter 260
Rosetta panicked and rushed to follow. โIvy, please donโt do this! Your father and I have been hoping youโd come home. Canโt you try to understand us? Weโre getting older. All we want is for our family to be whole again.โ
โBut your perfect family comes at the cost of my pain.โ Ivyโs voice was flat, her smile cold. โIโm doing fine on my own. Used to be alone, now I have someone by my side. Iโm not lacking for love or money. This placeโฆโ She glanced around, her eyes void of nostalgia. โAll thatโs left here for me is disappointment and hurt.โ
She turned to Jamison. โWhat are you still sitting there for? Letโs go.โ
Jamison rose at once. โAlright. Letโs go.โ
Adkins, seeing them about to leave, grew anxious.
Jamison Ludwig showing up in personโwhat a rare opportunity for their family! He pushed aside the sting of Jamisonโs earlier insults and hurried to persuade him. โMr. Ludwig, you and Ivy are together. Youโll get married, right? When that happens, sheโll need her family. A bride without her own familyโpeople will talk. Canโt you convince her? Even if she wonโt live here, she could at least visit sometimes.โ
Jamison listened patiently, then turned to the woman beside him. โDo you need your family when you get married?โ
โWhat do you think?โ
He smiled and faced Adkins. โIvy doesnโt need them.โ
Adkins was left speechless, his pride in tatters.
โOh, and since weโre here, might as well share some good news,โ Jamison added calmly. โIvy and I are getting married next Wednesday. But it has nothing to do with any of you. From now on, Ivy will have plenty of places to call homeโa house, a penthouse, wherever she likes. But she will never set foot in the Windsor family home again.โ
Before Jamison had even finished, the Windsor family stared at them in shock, eyes wide, completely stunned. None of them had imagined thisโJamison was really marrying Ivy, and so soon.
