โOf course. I know this isnโt easy for you. Take your time โ think it over and get back to me,โ Gallagher said gently.
โAlright,โ Ivy replied.
After ending the call, she looked up at Jamison, her eyes clouded with uncertainty and indecision. She didnโt know if she should go.
Jamison understood without her saying a word. Squeezing her hand, he steered the conversation away from her worries. โCome on, letโs get something to eat first. No matter how big the problem, it can wait until weโve had a proper breakfast.โ
Ivy didnโt protest. She let him lead her out, and together they headed to a nearby cafรฉ.
Over breakfast, as the comforting warmth of the meal took the edge off her nerves, Ivy finally spoke. โJamison, I think I want to go. Even if I canโt actually help the police, at least I should try.โ
Jamison drew a deep breath, nodding as if he, too, had just made up his mind. โAlright. If youโve decided, I wonโt stop you. Iโll go with you.โ
โYouโll come with me? But youโre so busy, I canโt ask you to-โ
He laughed, brushing off her concern. โI havenโt taken a real vacation in years. If I want time off now, whoโs going to stop me?โ
And as one of the companyโs major shareholders, nobody would dare object.
Ivy still frowned, anxiety knotting her brow. โButโฆ that place is really run-down. Itโs dangerous, filthy โ you donโt have to see it for yourself.โ
He shrugged, still smiling. โIโm not planning to move in. Whether itโs pleasant or not isnโt my concern.โ His grip on her hand tightened, his voice lowering. โIf youโre going, Iโm going with you. Thatโs my only condition. Otherwise, itโs not up for discussion.โ
Ivy hesitated for a moment, then nodded decisively. โAlright. Weโll go together.โ
After a short pause, she remembered something else. โSince youโll be with me, I want to visit someone while weโre there.โ
Jamison studied her face, then seemed to understand. โYou mean that boy, Silas? The one with cerebral palsy?โ
Ivyโs eyes widened in surprise โ he actually remembered!
โYes. Iโd like to see how heโs doing now.โ Silas had once helped her, and though his parents had been accomplices to human traffickers, her feelings toward that family were complicated. Given the chance, she still wanted to see Silas again.
Jamisonโs expression darkened. โAre you really willing to go back there?โ
After all, it was the place sheโd been imprisoned for three years โ her personal hell and the source of her deepest fears.
Ivyโs face paled. Clearly, she was still frightened, but when she looked at Jamison, she seemed to draw strength. โWith you by my side, I think I can do it.โ
By saying that, she was acknowledging the trust sheโd placed in him โ seeing him as her anchor, someone she could rely on.
Jamisonโs features softened into a gentle smile. โAlright. Iโll go with you. But for safetyโs sake, Iโm bringing a few security guards.โ
Even though Gallagher had said thereโd be plenty of officers to guarantee her safety, it never hurt to be extra cautious.
โOf course. You handle those details.โ
Once their plans were settled, Ivy called Gallagher back.
Hearing her agree, Gallagher was clearly relieved and thanked her profusely.
โGallagher, Iโm married now, and my husband will be coming with me. Heโll also be bringing some additional security,โ Ivy explained. Since theyโd be working with the police, it was best to be open about the arrangements.
โUnderstood. Iโve heard about your marriage, actually. Word is your husbandโs the youngest of the Ludwig family โ very well-off, highly respected, and a renowned surgeon to boot. Congratulations, Ivy. After all youโve been through, you finally have the happiness you deserve.โ Gallagherโs voice was warm with genuine wishes.
Ivy was stunned. She hadnโt expected even people outside their social circle to know about their marriage.
Jamison just chuckled. โThatโs not so strange. The police haveโฆโ
