Chapter 36
As Ivy launched into her tirade, Katrina clung to her sleeve, whispering anxiously, โIvy, Ivy, please, thatโs enoughโฆโ
Jamison listened to her insults with a patience that bordered on indifference. Maybe he was too angry to react, or perhaps heโd suddenly decided none of it was worth his time. To everyoneโs surprise, he calmly pulled out a chair, crossed one leg over the other with a hint of elegance, and regarded her with a faint, almost amused smile.
โAre you finished?โ
โNot even close. Youโre just like Micah โ so fake, two-faced, a total jerk โ mmph, mmph-โ
โIvy!โ Katrinaโs nerves finally snapped. She jumped up and slapped her hand over her friendโs mouth, desperate to stop the outburst.
โMr. Jamison, Iโm so sorry,โ Katrina stammered, turning to him in apology. โIvyโs just having a rough day. Please donโt take it personally.โ
Ivy yanked Katrinaโs hand away, glaring. โWhy do you always try to shut me up? Since when are you on his side?โ
Katrinaโs face fell, her worry written all over it. โYouโre already in such a tough spot at home. Do you really need to make enemies out here too? With the Ludwigsโ influenceโฆโ
She trailed off, but the warning was clear. The Ludwig family was the most powerful in Neo Haven. If her best friend antagonized them, life in this city would be nearly impossible. Sheโd be attacked from all sides โ how was she supposed to survive?
Seeing Katrinaโs eyes fill with tears, Ivyโs anger faded. She knew Katrina meant well and couldnโt bring herself to argue anymore.
โCome on, Iโm not the one crying here โ you are.โ Ivy grabbed a napkin from the table and gently dabbed Katrinaโs cheeks.
Katrina took the napkin, her voice hoarse. โIโm just worried about you. Iโm not crying because you yelled at me.โ
Jamison sat in silence, watching them. For reasons he didnโt understand, something cold and locked away in his chest shifted. Was it Ivyโs impossible situation that got to him? Or the fierce loyalty between these two girls?
Abruptly, he spoke up. โThirty-five million for the house. Iโll throw in two private parking spots. Thatโs my final offer. If you agree, itโs yours.โ
Ivy stared at him, stunned. โHave you lost your mind?โ Just a moment ago, heโd refused to sell at any price โ now he was practically giving it away, parking included.
Jamisonโs lips curled in a cool, dismissive smile. โI think your friendโs a good person. Iโm doing her a favor.โ
Katrina lit up, nodding eagerly. โThank you, Mr. Jamison. Thank you so much!โ She turned to Ivy, lowering her voice. โWhat do you think? Are you okay with this price? Do you still want to buy?โ
The real estate agent jumped in, โMiss Windsor, if you agree, I can lower my commission by half a percent.โ She quickly added, trying to tug at Ivyโs heartstrings, โThe marketโs been brutal lately. I havenโt closed a deal in two months โ half my coworkers have quit. Please, Miss Windsor, help me out. Let me close just this one sale!โ
Giving up that chunk of her commission was a sacrifice, but it was a strategic move โ and it made Ivy pause.
The stalemate returned. Both sides were waiting for the other to blink.
After a momentโs thought, Ivy met Jamisonโs eyes. โThirty-four million. Iโll pay in full, in one go, the day we sign.โ
Jamison raised an eyebrow. โAll at once?โ
โThatโs right.โ
โYouโre not running some kind of scam, are you?โ Heโd heard about her home situation since sheโd moved back โ the Windsor family wouldnโt even let her have a proper bedroom, let alone hand her millions. Where on earth was she getting that kind of money? And how could she talk about buying a mansion like it was nothing?
Ivy let out a low laugh, her eyes raking over him with scorn. โYou think Iโm the con artist here? If I remember right, youโre the one with a reputation problem.โ
