Chapter 379

Listen to this chapter:

Jamison ignored her, but inside, resentment burned. This woman! She had never truly cared for himโ€”always saw him as a gullible foolโ€”yet somehow, she could fake concern so convincingly that even he almost believed it.

After a long, heavy silence, he shot back with icy sarcasm. โ€œMust be tough for you.โ€

โ€œWhatโ€™s that supposed to mean? Why are you being so passive-aggressive?โ€

Ivy played dumb, though she understood perfectly wellโ€”and was barely suppressing a smile. Feigning confusion, she asked in a tone of earnestness, โ€œYou were fine when you showered earlier, but after you went to your study you came out looking like youโ€™d swallowed a stick of dynamite. Are you sure you were just reviewing project files in there?โ€

He didnโ€™t answer, but her words made him strangely uneasy. Could she be suspicious about something?

โ€œOr maybe you were talking to someone in the study? Did someone piss you off, and now youโ€™re taking it out on me?โ€ Ivy pressed, her eyes glinting with mischief.

Jamison grew even more flustered, so he could only bark out a denial. โ€œNo. Youโ€™re overthinking it. I just got irritated thinking about you going back to campus, living in a dorm. Iโ€™ve done so much for you, and all you do is scheme to get away from me instead of showing any gratitude.โ€

Ivy felt wronged. โ€œHow am I ungrateful? Iโ€™ve given you everythingโ€”what more do you want? Besides, Iโ€™m just going back to school, not filing for divorce. How is that running away?โ€

โ€œWhen exactly did you give me everything?โ€ Jamison seized on her words.

โ€œLoveโ€ฆโ€ Ivy hesitated, suddenly remembering theyโ€™d never actually slept together. She faltered, but quickly added, โ€œThat was because I had issues, which you knew about. You respected me and didnโ€™t force thingsโ€ฆ So why are you blaming me now?โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s not what Iโ€™m saying.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s exactly what youโ€™re saying.โ€ Ivy sat up, determined to hash it out. โ€œAre you just picking a fight because youโ€™re frustrated we havenโ€™t slept together yet?โ€

Jamison looked up at her, his expression unreadable. โ€œIs that really how little you think of me?โ€

โ€œHow would I know? You guys are impossible to figure outโ€”who knows what youโ€™re really thinking. You change moods so fast it gives me whiplash.โ€

He opened his mouth as if to say something, then just sighed and muttered, โ€œForget it. Letโ€™s just go to sleep.โ€

With that, he shut his eyes. But Ivy wasnโ€™t ready to let it drop.

โ€œIf you want it that badly, itโ€™s not like Iโ€™m refusing. But youโ€™re still recovering, so we canโ€™t just jump into things. Once youโ€™re healed, weโ€™ll see what happens.โ€

In truth, Ivy was curious herselfโ€”was she finally over her psychological barrier? If she could get past it and accept intimacy, then that โ€œenergy-balancingโ€ therapy could finally be an option. Her period was coming up again, and the thought of her crippling cramps made her nervous.

Jamisonโ€™s eyes widened in surprise. He studied her for a moment before asking, โ€œYouโ€ฆ think you could handle it now?โ€

Ivy blushed, looking away. โ€œIโ€™m not sure. I guess weโ€™ll have to try and see. Maybe I can.โ€

Jamison grew even more confused. From what he knew of Ivy, she wasnโ€™t the type to take intimacy lightly. Sheโ€™d never sleep with a man she didnโ€™t loveโ€”especially not when she still had so much emotional baggage to overcome.

So, which was the real Ivy? The one who chatted easily online, or the one sitting beside him now?

โ€œItโ€™s late. You should get some rest. Tomorrowโ€™s going to be a busy day.โ€ Ivy picked up her phone, her voice calm and distant.

Jamison frowned, watching her. โ€œYouโ€™re not going to sleep?โ€

โ€œI just need to reply to a message.โ€

The moment she said it, he tensed up againโ€”he knew exactly who she was texting.
