โOh, you mean that!โ Boyd started the car, sounding positively animated. โIโm not sure if theyโve actually gotten back together, but last night, Emma got kicked out by the Windsor family. At first, she stayed at some cheap motel. Then, around two in the morning, Micah showed up, picked her up, and brought her back to his own place.โ
Ivyโs expression was impossible to describe.
Micah really was born without a lick of common sense.
โBut this morning, my auntโwell, Micahโs momโshowed up with a couple of people and threw Emma out again. Word is, Emma left in tears, covering her face. She probably got slapped around a bit.โ
Hearing that, Ivy suddenly understood.
โNo wonder she called me at noon, screaming her head off and cursing me out.โ
So sheโd been chewed out again, just as Ivy suspected.
Boyd glanced at her in the rearview mirror, a look of concern and confusion on his face. โWait, what do you mean? Emma called you again?โ
โYeah. She must have figured I was the one who told Micahโs mom where to find her, so she used a new number to call and completely lost it on me.โ
Ivy shrugged it off with a little laugh.
As if she had nothing better to do than tattle.
Besides, things were awkward enough between her and Carlaโthey barely even spoke when they saw each other. Why on earth would she go out of her way to stir up trouble?
Boyd looked a little anxious. โAre you okay, Ivy? Whatever she said, just ignore it, alright?โ
โDonโt worry about me. Iโm not that thin-skinned. I was just confused until now. Thanks to you, I finally get what happened.โ
โYeah, I always keep Uncle Jamison updated on whatever Emmaโs up to. Iโm guessing he told my aunt, and thatโs why she went over there.โ
โMakes sense. I canโt really blame Jamison. After all, Micahโs his nephew, and heโs just looking out for family. He did the right thing by letting Carla know.โ
And since she and Jamison were basically a team, it wasnโt exactly unfair for Emma to take her anger out on Ivy.
If anything, Ivy felt a little vindicated.
Carlaโs actions had, in a roundabout way, done her a favor.
โSo, whereโs Emma staying now? Sheโs not actually out on the street, is she?โ Ivy asked, curiosity piqued.
Boyd replied, โSheโs checked into a budget hotel. Pretty sure Micah gave her some money.โ
Ivy let out a cold laugh. โIdiot. The two of them really are a perfect match.โ
Maybe it was better if they were stuck with each otherโserves them right.
But the real problem was, Emma was still Sheridanโs fiancรฉe, and everyone knew she was pregnant. If Micah kept getting involved with her now, he was just asking for trouble.
And, as it turned out, thatโs exactly what happened.
After Carla kicked Emma out, she immediately called her son and tore into him, ordering him never to see Emma again.
Micahโs first reaction to his motherโs fury wasnโt guiltโit was outrage. โHow did you even find out? You and Dad arenโt having me followed, are you? Iโm an adult, I have my own life! This is insane!โ
He was actually furious.
Carla was so angry her heart raced and her head spun. After taking a moment to compose herself, she snapped, โYour uncle told me, thatโs how! Otherwise, Iโd still be in the dark!โ
โJamison! Of course, itโs Jamison!โ Micah was livid. โWhy does he have to stick his nose into everything? What business is it of his?โ
โYou ungrateful brat! Thatโs your uncle, your elder. Heโs just looking out for you, and heโs absolutely right to do so!โ
โForget it,โ Micah finally muttered, too angry to keep arguing. โWhat did you do to Emma? She has nowhere to go, no one to turn to. You threw her outโhowโs she supposed to survive?โ
