Chapter 634

Jamison asked, โ€œSo is she staying in the hospital, or did she leave?โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s still here. Insisted on being admitted, actually. And she demanded we use the best medication to prevent a miscarriageโ€”but Dr. Ludwig, she hasnโ€™t paid her medical bills, and sheโ€™s HIV positive. This is a real headache!โ€

The OBโ€“GYN muttered under her breath, clearly unhappy about having this problem dropped in her lap by Jamison.

โ€œShe has family. Tell her to contact them and have someone come pay the bill. If she refuses, call the police.โ€ Jamisonโ€™s tone was cold and firm.

โ€œUnderstood.โ€ The doctor had only grumbled because she didnโ€™t know what this patientโ€™s connection to Jamison was. Now, hearing his clipped, authoritative response, she finally relaxed.

After hanging up, Jamison changed out of his white coat and headed home.

By then, the bodyguards Boyd Ludwig had arranged were already stationed at Ivyโ€™s side.

Jamison wanted them to keep a low profile, worried Ivy would be uncomfortable being followed around like some celebrity. But Ivy was more practical than heโ€™d given her credit for: she asked Boyd for the guardsโ€™ contact info, called them herself, and told them to stick close and help her carry her things.

When Jamison arrived at the restaurant to meet his wife for dinner, he was momentarily taken aback by the sight of two hulking men seated at her table. For a split second, the scene reminded him of one of those wealthy women who keep young male companionsโ€”a mental image that immediately called to mind Baillie Windsorโ€™s notorious benefactress.

Ivy explained, โ€œIt was my idea. Itโ€™s easier if they just stick with me. But when weโ€™re on campus, I told them to ditch the black suits and sunglasses. They look too much like mobstersโ€”so I just bought them a couple sets of tracksuits. From now on, theyโ€™ll blend in as college guys.โ€

That way, sheโ€™d finally get some peace from all the guys at school hitting on her.

Jamison couldnโ€™t help but laugh and shake his head. He sat down, eyeing his wifeโ€”this situation was justโ€ฆ impossible to judge! On the one hand, it was dief [original text was unreadable], on the other, he couldnโ€™t help but feel a stab of jealousy.

After Ivy finished speaking, the two bodyguards picked up on Jamisonโ€™s mood and immediately stood up to bow politely. โ€œMr. Ludwig, Mrs. Ludwig, please enjoy your meal. Weโ€™ll be nearby if you need us.โ€

As they left, one of them turned back and bowed again. โ€œThank you for your generosity today, maโ€™am.โ€

Ivy waved it off. โ€œDonโ€™t mention it. Just take the clothes with you.โ€

โ€œThank you, maโ€™am.โ€

They gathered the shopping bags from the chairs and relocated them to a table behind.

Jamison shook his head again, finally unable to resist a playful jab. โ€œI never thought Iโ€™d see the day you bought clothes for other menโ€”especially men who spend more time with you than your actual husband.โ€

Ivy grinned. โ€œIf it really bothers you, just send them away.โ€

โ€œNo way. Theyโ€™re sticking with you, whether I like it or not. Emma and the Carters are both loose cannonsโ€ฆโ€ Even while sulking, Jamison knew better than to risk her safety.

Ivy knew he was just talking tough. In reality, he was a hundred times more anxious about her than heโ€™d ever admit. She chuckled and offered him a bit of flattery, โ€œRelaxโ€”there isnโ€™t a man in this whole city who could hold a candle to you. Iโ€™m not about to go looking elsewhere.โ€

Jamison raised an eyebrow. โ€œSo, whatโ€”youโ€™d only consider it if you found someone better outside the city?โ€

Ivy rolled her eyes and tossed the menu at him. โ€œJust order dinner already, Iโ€™m starving!โ€

He laughed, slid into the seat beside her, and leaned in to kiss her before finally turning to the menu.

Ivy, still distracted by thoughts of Emma, asked about her. Jamison relayed the OBโ€“GYNโ€™s report.

โ€œItโ€™s honestly bizarre,โ€ Ivy muttered. โ€œEmma acts like sheโ€™s trying to lose that baby every day, yet somehow, itโ€™s hanging on for dear life.โ€ She couldnโ€™t help but feel a pang of envy.

She wished she could get pregnant herself, but her chances were slim.

Meanwhile, Emma kept getting pregnant by accident. Sheโ€™d lost Micahโ€™s baby last time, and barely three months later, she was expecting again.

With the way Emmaโ€™s life had been falling apart latelyโ€”not to mention all the abuse sheโ€™d been taking from Sheridanโ€”Ivy had assumed this pregnancy wouldnโ€™t last either. But against all odds, the child was still there, stubborn as ever.
