Chapter 796

โ€œYes, he told me everything. I also asked him to assign more people to watch over me in secret. Donโ€™t worry, Iโ€™ll take good care of myself.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s my good girl. Iโ€™ll make sure your husband rewards you handsomely tonight.โ€

โ€œGet lost!โ€ Ivy shot back playfully, feigning annoyance as she hung up the call.

After a good nightโ€™s sleep, she finally felt somewhat refreshed. The news that she hadnโ€™t caught the infection only brightened her spirits further. Ivy felt practically buoyant.

She got up and headed to the bathroom. As she sat down, her mind wanderedโ€”despite herselfโ€”to thoughts of the evening ahead. Somewhere deep inside, she found herself looking forward to nightfall.

But when she finished and glanced down, all she saw was a splash of red. Her heart sank in dismay.

Well, that explained the aching back, the fatigue, the dips in her moodโ€ฆ How could she have forgotten about this old โ€œmonthly visitorโ€ who hadnโ€™t shown up in ages?

Dr. Beckett, the surgeon whoโ€™d taken care of her, had explained that after this sort of procedure, it usually took women three to six monthsโ€”sometimes even longerโ€”to get their cycle back.

And Ivyโ€™s case had been even more complicated, since sheโ€™d also undergone a termination. Her body shouldโ€™ve needed more time to recover, not less.

But here she was, barely three months out, and right on the dot, her period had returned.

Once the shock wore off, Ivy actually felt a rush of relief. Best of allโ€“she wasnโ€™t in pain.

Apart from the usual period aches and mood swings, there was none of that excruciating agony she used to dread. It was as if a lifelong burden had suddenly been lifted. Ivy felt lighter than sheโ€™d been in years.

At lunch, she picked up her phone, thinking about telling Jamison the news. But then she pausedโ€”maybe itโ€™d be more fun to tell him tonight.

She pictured Dr. Ludwig coming home from work, all fired up and ready to get intimate, only to have her break the news about her period. She couldnโ€™t help but giggle at the thoughtโ€”would he collapse onto the bed in dramatic disappointment?

Just imagining it made Ivy snicker to herself.

After her surgery, Dr. Beckett had added her on WhatsApp and told her to reach out anytime if she had questions about her recovery. So after lunch, Ivy messaged her to explain what had happened.

Dr. Beckett must have been busy; she replied with two quick voice notes.

โ€œThis is great news! Getting your period back so soon means your bodyโ€™s healing wellโ€“your uterus is back to normal. Thatโ€™s definitely a good sign.โ€

โ€œIt also has to do with your age and healthy ovarian reserve. Plus, it sounds like Dr. Ludwig has been taking excellent care of you. As long as you feel fine otherwise, no need to worry. Once your cycle finishes, just come see me for a checkup.โ€

Ivy felt even more at ease and replied with her own voice message: โ€œDr. Beckett, how long should I wait before trying for a baby?โ€

โ€œIf youโ€™re planning to conceive, itโ€™s best to wait at least six months after the surgery, especially since you also had a termination. When you come in, Iโ€™ll do a full fertility assessment.โ€

โ€œThank you, Dr. Beckett.โ€

As soon as they finished, another thought struck Ivy. She quickly sent a text: Dr. Beckett, please donโ€™t mention this to him yet. I want to tell him myself tonight.

She was worried Dr. Beckett might bump into Jamison at the hospital and let the news slip, ruining her โ€œsurprise.โ€ Better to be safe.

Dr. Beckett replied with a โ€œgot itโ€ emoji.

Ivy put down her phone and hummed a little tune, anticipation bubbling up inside her. Tonight, she was looking forward to something different than she had at noonโ€“a new kind of excitement.

That afternoon, Boyd called back.

โ€œIvy, I found Adkinsโ€˜ hospital records. Heโ€™s in bad shapeโ€”still in critical condition at Harmony Hospital after being rushed in for emergency treatment.โ€

Ivy was in such a good mood that she grew generous. โ€œGo ahead and give them the money. Transfer five hundred thousand.โ€

Boyd sounded surprised. โ€œAre you sure? Five hundred thousand?โ€

โ€œYes. Call it my good deed for the day.โ€

โ€œAlright, Iโ€™ll take care of it.โ€

Early evening, just before Jamison left work, he called to ask if Ivy was craving anything in particularโ€”he could pick something up on the way home.

Ivy knew exactly what he was implying.

He wanted to make sure she had plenty of energy for tonight.

She teased, โ€œNo need, really. You should be the one picking out something youโ€™d enjoyโ€”after all, youโ€™ll be doing the heavy lifting.โ€

After all, when it came to โ€œmarital exercise,โ€ the husband usually did most of the work.

Jamison caught the joke and laughed. โ€œDonโ€™t get cocky.โ€

Ivy grinned wickedly and hung up.

Ten minutes later, the front door opened. Ivy jumped up from the sofa and hurried to greet him.

As soon as Jamison walked in, she threw her arms around his neck, launching herself into his arms.

โ€œWow, someoneโ€™s enthusiastic tonight. Thatโ€™s not what I expectedโ€”I thought youโ€™d be hiding somewhere, making me hunt you down.โ€ Dr. Ludwig wrapped his arms around his petite wife, his handsome face breaking into a wide grin as he leaned down for a few eager kisses.

This time, Ivy didnโ€™t dodge. She just raised an eyebrow and shot back, โ€œWhy would I hide? Itโ€™s not me whoโ€™s about to suffer, after all.โ€
