Chapter 828
โIvy? Ohโฆ Manager Zoe called her into a meeting!โ
โWhereโs the meeting? Could you please take me there?โ Jamisonโs tone was cool but polite.
The male colleague who answered him felt an inexplicable urge to comply. โItโs upstairs. Iโll take you,โ he said, quickly getting to his feet.
โThank you.โ
When the meeting room door was knocked on and Jamison appeared behind it, Ivy was genuinely startled.
โWhat are you doing up here?โ she blurted out in surprise.
Jamison tapped his watch. โItโs already seven oโclock. The whole family is waiting for us for dinner.โ
His words made the two senior executives and several other department heads in the room feel rather embarrassed.
Ivy quickly stood up. โMr. Crawford, Mr. Lawrence, itโs a family memberโs birthday today, and we have a family dinner waiting for us.โ
โOh, is that so!โ The two executives immediately rose, apologizing profusely and explaining to Jamison, โMr. Jamison, weโre truly sorry. We lost track of time.โ
Jamison pursed his lips and gave a curt nod in greeting. He walked over and took his wifeโs hand. โCan she leave now?โ
โYes, of course! Ivy, thank you for your hard work today!โ the executives said, nodding politely again.
Ivy offered a courteous smile. โMr. Crawford, Mr. Lawrence, Iโll be going then. Iโve already explained my position. Please consider it.โ
โOf course, of course. You two should hurry back.โ The executives stood up and saw them to the door.
Without a single word of courtesy, Jamison pulled Ivy away and left without a backward glance.
As they walked downstairs, Ivy noticed people from every department craning their necks to watch them.
She frowned, then looked at her husband and understood. โYou didnโt go from department to department asking for me, did you?โ
โWhat other choice did I have? I waited in the car for an hour.โ Dr. Ludwig had a temper too. He had never waited for anyone in his life, let alone for a full hour. His rear end felt like it was glued to the driverโs seat.
Ivy was being pulled along, only able to see his profile from behind. It had been a while since heโd given her the cold shoulder. Instead of getting angry, she found his current mood rather amusing.
โAlright, alright, I know the great Mr. Jamison has been wronged. Iโm the first person to ever make you wait, right? Remember on our trip when you said you wanted to unlock many more โfirstsโ between us? Doesnโt today count as one?โ
They had reached the elevator when Jamison turned around, his dark eyes glaring at her.
โThis counts?โ
โWhy not? Itโs clearly another first for us.โ
Jamison stared at her mischievous eyes, at a loss for words.
Once they were in the car, seeing that he still seemed a bit upset, Ivy decided to use her ultimate weapon.
Just as Jamison buckled his seatbelt and started the engine, a hand reached over from the passenger seat and grabbed his collar.
โYou-โ He was startled, not understanding what she was doing. Ivy leaned over, pulling his face towards hers by his collar.
It was a kiss where she took complete control. Ivy held him firmly by the collar, turning her head just enough to avoid their noses bumping. Her lips pressed deeply against his, a kiss that was both possessive and tender, dominant yet sensual.
Jamisonโs eyes went wide. His expression shifted from cool indifference to clear surprise, then softened into tenderness.
Ivy had initially closed her eyes. When she sensed he had been sufficiently placated, she opened them and looked at him from up close.
Jamison hadnโt closed his eyes at all. So when he saw the woman who had deliberately used her charm on him open her eyes and gaze at him with a smile, he playfully bit her lip.
โOuchโฆโ Ivy hissed in pain, pulling back and letting go of him. Her lip was numb, and she could taste a faint hint of blood. She flipped down the sun visor to check the mirror.
โYou broke the skin!โ she exclaimed.
Jamison was smiling now. He scoffed, โServes you right for always using your feminine wiles on me.โ
Ivy was still sucking in a breath of air. She swatted at him several times in protest. โYouโre terrible! We have to go to the family estate later. How am I supposed to face everyone like this?โ
โJust say you have a canker sore from stress.โ
โLike anyone would believe that! Iโll just say a dog bit me.โ
โYou wouldnโt dare.โ
โJust watch me!โ
Their playful bickering continued until Jamisonโs phone rang again.
โHelloโฆ Yes, Iโve got her. Weโre on our way back. Donโt wait for us; go ahead and eat.โ
After hanging up with his brother, Jamison glanced over at her. โDo we still need to go home for the gift, or should we just head straight there?โ
โOf course we need the gift. Itโs on the way, it wonโt take long.โ
Jamison didnโt think it was necessary, but he went along with his wifeโs wishes.
