Chapter 122

After just a few moves, Winifred was already losing. A flash of stubbornness flickered in her eyes as she caught a whiff of a cool, strangely familiar scentโ€”so calming it almost put her at ease. She figured her opponent had to be a woman, too.

Sheโ€™d always thought she was unbeatable, but now she couldnโ€™t even get close enough to touch her opponentโ€™s clothes.

โ€œIโ€™m not here to hurt you. Just wait a bit before you go back out,โ€ Sienna said.

Winifred stiffened at the voice. Her fingers clenched around the vial before she swiftly tucked it out of sight.

She turned her face away.

Sienna reached for the light switch, but Winifred grabbed her wrist. โ€œDonโ€™t turn on the lights, or weโ€™ll both go down together.โ€

Sienna lowered her hand. โ€œFine.โ€

Winifred dropped onto the sofa, her heart pounding for reasons she couldnโ€™t even name. There was this weird rush of emotions bubbling up inside her.

โ€œIโ€™ll have my people get you out of here in a bit,โ€ Sienna said.

Winifredโ€™s face changed in a flash. She rose and shot back coldly, โ€œNo need! Helping strangers always comes with a price. If you donโ€™t get something that simple, what have you even been doing all these years?โ€

Sienna lowered her eyes, thinking to herself, But youโ€™re my sister!

Winifred sat back down, a cold sneer flashing through her mind. She probably doesnโ€™t even know who I amโ€”just randomly helping out a stranger.

โ€œDo you need money?โ€ Sienna suddenly asked.

Winifred paused, then it hit herโ€”Sienna must think she was some kind of petty thief.

She curled her lips into a mischievous grin. โ€œOh, Iโ€™m desperate for cash. What, you loaded or something? Maybe I should just kidnap you and make you pay for ransom."

A sharp ache twisted in Siennaโ€™s chest, pain flickering in her eyes and her voice thick with emotion. โ€œYou donโ€™t need to kidnap me. I have plenty of money. However much you want, I can give it to you.โ€

Winifred was stunned for a moment. She crossed her arms, turned away, and let out a mocking laugh. โ€œAre you crazy?โ€

She sneered inwardly. She wants to give me money? Does she even know who I am?

Just handing out cash to some random strangerโ€”what is she, some gullible fool?

Or maybe just a rich idiot with more money than sense.

If I were a murderer, she would already be dead by my hand.

Did she spend the last ten years abroad just being a full-time stay-at-home wife!

Otherwise, how can she be this naive and dumb?

Hah!

Figuresโ€”they really are all cut from the same cloth. Just like Amber and Vivian, a bunch of useless airheads, every single one of them.

โ€œWhere do you live?โ€ Sienna kept asking.

Winifred shot back. โ€œAnd what does where I live have to do with you? What, you want me to hand over my address so you can show up at my door and blackmail me! Do I look like some idiot whoโ€™d fall for people like you? Seriously, get your brain checkedโ€”youโ€™d probably thank the con artist after they emptied your bank account.โ€

Sienna made no reply.

Seeing her fall silent, Winifred kicked back and crossed her legs, feeling a surge of satisfaction. She was just about to unlock her phone when she remembered the glow from the screen would light up her face. So she immediately locked it again.

It happened that Lana messaged Sienna, telling her everything had been handled. As Sienna picked up her phone to reply, Winifred caught a glimpse of her face illuminated by the screen.

Her look was just like back then, when sheโ€™d video call Winifred with that gentle smile and say, โ€œBe good and stay home, Winifred. Iโ€™ll be back soon. Look after your little snake, and when I return, Iโ€™ll take you to the forest to see the animals.โ€

The memory made her emotions surge, pain stabbing through her chest so sharply she could barely breathe. She clenched her fists so hard her knuckles turned white, fighting to keep the tidal wave inside from breaking loose.

Liar! Liar! I hate you! she screamed in her mind.

With her face clouded over, Winifred burst out the door. Sienna reached out to stop her, but she was already gone.
