Chapter 178
Leo's face showed a hint of impatience. Why is everyone asking me about the ZS serum? he thought.
"Josef, I didn't bring it. Your dad and I are still talking things over. Have you heard of Iris Grant, the youngest miracle doctor? She's back in the country and agreed to do surgery for your dad. There's a pretty good chance—about seventy or eighty percent—that he'll be able to walk again,” Leo said.
Leo’s words made Josef almost burst with joy. He grabbed Leo's arm in excitement. They had been waiting for this day for five years. “Really?”
But Sienna had also promised she could help Calvin walk again. Compared to anyone else, Josef trusted Sienna the most. Is Sienna planning to have Iris Grant treat my dad, too? he wondered.
“Yeah, I’m really happy for you guys. But if you go ahead with the surgery, you can’t use the ZS serum. You guys need to think this through,” Leo said.
Wait, that doesn’t add up? Josef thought. Sienna clearly said to use the ZS serum to help Dad recover, but Leo Lambert is saying the opposite.
From what Josef knew, the ZS serum was incredibly rare—something everyone wanted because it could restore health and vitality. He wasn’t a doctor, but shouldn’t the two treatments work together?
"Mr. Lambert, was it Iris Grant who said my dad can't use the ZS drug? Where is she? Is it possible for me to meet her? I want to ask her myself," Josef said.
Leo paused for a second, then smiled. "Josef, don't you believe me? After running multiple tests, I can say for sure—your dad's condition really isn't suitable for this drug right now.
"I know everyone's heard about how incredible it is, but there are some hidden risks, too.
"That's why I don't recommend that he get the injection. What do you think, Josef?"
Leo had already laid everything out. If Josef and Calvin still insisted on their own way, they'd really be too stubborn for their own good.
“Mr. Lambert, it’s not that I don’t believe you, but I really think my dad needs the ZS serum. Sienna was the one who brought it over, and I asked her myself—she said my dad could use it," Josef insisted.
Leo exploded, slamming his palm on the table with a loud smack as he shot to his feet. "Tell me, who's the doctor here—me or you? I've been bending over backwards for you, thinking only of your best interests, and you still doubt me?"
Leo’s sudden outburst startled both Josef and Calvin. Neither of them had ever seen him this angry before.
Leo’s anger got the better of him for a moment, but as soon as he realized it, guilt washed over his face. "I’m sorry, Calvin, Josef. I lost my temper. It’s just that I’m really worried about you. I don’t want you to get hurt because of some bad advice from others.
"You're my best friend—I’ve always seen you as family. I’m just scared that if anything goes wrong, your life could be at risk,”
Calvin let out a long sigh, his tone sincere and heavy. "Leo, I know you're looking out for me, but this is my decision."
Seeing that he couldn’t change their minds, Leo could only sigh in resignation. "Alright then, since that's what you've decided, I won't say anything more. It's your choice. I'll head back to the research institute and bring the drug over.
"You will have some time to think it through. Dr. Iris Grant made it very clear—if you go through with the surgery, you can’t use the ZS serum." Josef’s gaze was sharp as a blade as he stared at Leo’s retreating figure. Why does this whole thing feel so weird? he thought.
Jocelyn was gone just like that. For days, Mia had been a nervous wreck, scared that Sienna would piece things together and track her.
All I did was pass along a message—Amber went in there on her own—it had nothing to do with me, Mia thought.
When Claire heard about what happened to Amber, she was frantic, checking her over to make sure she wasn’t hurt. “Claire, I’m really fine. I got pretty banged up last night, but I’m okay now,” Amber reassured her.
“I was worried sick, Amber. That was a close call! By the way, my brother’s throwing a celebration cruise tomorrow night. Since it’s the weekend, why don’t we all go have some fun together?” Claire suggested.
Amber’s face lit up with a smile. She really wanted to go. “Sure, I’ll have to ask Sienna first.”
“Sienna will definitely say yes. Who knows, she might even come along with you. I heard my brother invited her too,” Claire said.
Just as Amber was about to respond, someone shouted her name. “Hey, Amber! You dummy, school’s over, what are you still hanging around for?”
It was Winifred.
Claire’s eyes went wide, and so did her mouth. She let out a long, nasal, “Cool!”
"She’s so cool and totally badass, and she’s even riding a motorcycle!" Claire was practically starstruck.
“Amber, who is she? She’s calling your name!" Claire shook her arm excitedly.
Amber wished she could just disappear into a hole in the ground. She really didn’t want to face Winifred right now.
Dork, does she really think she’s all that? Acting like some kind of badass!
She looks just like one of those thugs from the streets!
Like she could throw down and beat someone up at any second, Amber thought.
Winifred was so fierce and boisterous—Amber really couldn’t stand her at all.
"She’s just an annoying woman," Amber grumbled, rolling her eyes.
“What’s her name?" Claire asked.
“Winifred Hart," Amber replied.
Claire thought for a moment. “Oh, I get it now. She’s your sister, right? The Han family has four sisters, doesn’t it?
"Sienna Hart’s the oldest, your second sister Vivian Hart, and your third sister is Winifred Hart.
"Amber, your sister is so cool! Look at what she’s wearing—she gives off this mysterious, don’t-mess-with-me vibe.”
Amber pouted and let out a huff. “She is so not my sister."
“Hey, Amber, are you getting in or what? The chauffeur’s not around today. If you want a ride home, get on now,” Vivian called out.
