Chapter 221
Vivian was taken aback, staring at Nathan in front of her in disbelief.
Nathan quickly waved his hands and explained, โDonโt get me wrong. It has nothing to do with me. You know, Iโm just a nobody in the Winslow family, the useless black sheep. I havenโt been involved in any of the companyโs affairs, not even once."
Vivian knew all too well that the one causing all the commotion lately was the Winslow family. They went bankrupt overnight. It served them right. They tried to take down Hart Corporation, but ended up losing everything themselves.
But Vivian never expected the Winslow family to go to such extremes, kidnapping her just to threaten Sienna. It was infuriating.
โI donโt get it. No matter what, youโre still a Winslow. Why are you helping me?โ Vivian asked, her confusion written all over her face.
Nathan let out a sigh. โIโm not stupid. Sienna is never going to let the Winslow family off the hook. Like you said, Iโm still one of them. Saving you is just my way of trying to carve out a way to survive for myself.โ
Nathan actually had a decent amount of assets to his name. He had nothing to do with the Winslow Group, wasnโt interested in inheriting it, and of course, didnโt own any shares.
Still, Nathan ran his own business and had his wealth. Sure, it was nothing compared to a giant like Hart Corporation, but it was more than enough for him to live comfortably and enjoy a life of luxury.
When the Winslow family went after the Hart family, Nathan wasted no time in trying to cut himself loose, all because he was afraid of getting dragged down with them.
When the Winslow family went bankrupt, Nathan didnโt even flinch. But now that Henry actually targeted Vivian, he was basically signing his own death warrant.
Nathan never expected Henry to be this dead-set on digging his own grave.
"I'm the Winslow familyโs heir. Thereโs no way Sienna would ever let me off the hook. If I were going to lose everything anyway, I might as well take my chances,โ Nathan wondered.
All Nathan wanted was to coast through life, no drive, no big dreams โ just plenty of savings to his name.
โI get it now,โ Vivian said, honestly surprised that Nathan was so indifferent to the Winslow familyโs fate. He was only ever interested in keeping himself out of the mess.
Nathan pleaded. โI swear, Vivian, every single word Iโve said is true. If Iโm lying, may I be struck by lightning. When the time comes, please, you have to explain my situation clearly to Sienna. Donโt let her punish the wrong person. Just let me go on being an ordinary spoiled rich kid, wasting away the rest of my life in comfort.โ
As he spoke, Nathan flopped down, not caring at all how filthy the ground was beneath him.
โWhy donโt you want to take over the Winslow Group?โ Vivian asked, genuinely curious. That was what most people dreamed of.
Power, influence, standing at the very top of the food chain, and making the world bend to oneโs will sounded so amazing.
Nathan glanced at Vivian, sounding completely unmotivated. "Do you have any idea how exhausting it is to run a company? Clocking in every day, business trips, endless meetings! Iโm just not that ambitious, and honestly, I couldnโt handle it.
โAll I want is to sleep in as long as I want, eat, have fun, and enjoy the rest of my days. Iโm perfectly happy being a total slacker, just lying flat and never making a comeback.โ
Vivian was speechless. Looking at him, she could almost believe he really was just a couch potato who truly didnโt want to turn things around.
Realizing his laid-back attitude, Vivian couldnโt hold back her curiosity and asked, โSo, how much do you actually have saved up?"
Nathan replied offhandedly. โNot counting my side businesses, Iโve managed to save up a few hundred million dollars over the years just by living frugally."
