Chapter 251
โHey, what are you doing? I can walk. Vivian, youโre such a rough woman. Whoโd ever want to marry you anyway?โ Amber grumbled, clearly annoyed.
Vivian let go of her, crossed her arms, and gave her a look of pure exasperation. โAmber, are you really that dumb, or just pretending?โ
Amber blinked, totally lost. โWhat do you mean?โ
Vivian just shrugged and headed inside the store.
Winifred figured Sienna was about to give her a lecture for messing with Amber, and a twinge of jealousy and sarcasm twisted inside her. โIs Amber always the one Sienna cares about most?โ she thought bitterly.
โThat idiot is clueless from head to toe. The only thing sheโs good at is acting all pitiful and sweet, just to win everyoneโs sympathy,โ Winifred scoffed inwardly.
โIf youโre here to talk about what happened earlier, donโt expect me to apologize,โ Winifred said coldly, her eyes deep and cold as she looked down. No one could notice the flicker of pain in her eyes.
โWhat are you talking about?โ Sienna asked, her usual doting gaze now tinged with confusion. Winifred paused for a moment, then quickly shook her head. โItโs nothing. What did you want to talk about, Sienna?โ
Sienna reached out and took her hand, her voice catching with emotion, eyes brimming with guilt. โWinifred, I know all about what Lydia has done. Back then, you were taken because you were looking for me, right?โ
Winifred stiffened all over, her movements frozen, unable to say a word.
โWinifred, I know youโve always been more mature than everyone else. I let you down. From now on, Iโll make it up to you. Just tell me whatever you want,โ Sienna said softly.
Winifred gripped her hand tightly, as if memories of that dark time were flooding back. โI just donโt want you to ever leave me.โ
Winifred looked up into Siennaโs beautiful, cool eyes, her own eyes full of silent pleading.
Sienna gave a bitter smile, a wave of anguish rising in her heart. โAlright, I wonโt leave you again. But thereโs something I have to tell you. You were just a kid back then, so you probably never noticed.
โLydiaโs people implanted a chip in your head. That thing could affect you for the rest of your life. Iโll do the surgery. Iโve already scheduled it for tonight, but if that feels too rushed, I can push it back a couple of days,โ
Winifredโs eyes flew wide in disbelief, her hand shooting up to touch her head. โThereโs actually something inside my head? All these years, and I never knew a thing,โ she wondered.
โDonโt be afraid. Nothing will happen to you, not while Iโm here,โ Sienna said, her presence always so calming and reassuring.
But Winifred couldnโt deny the fear that gripped her when she heard about the chip. She was terrified of dying.
Winifred still had so much left to do. Sheโd only managed to win one trophy so far. There was no way she was ready to call it quits.
But feeling the warmth of Siennaโs hand in hers, all Winifredโs fears faded away. As long as Sienna was there, nothing could scare her.
โAlright, Sienna, I trust you. Letโs do it tonight,โ Winifred said with a small smile. Sienna returned her smile and gently ruffled Winifredโs hair. โI promise, I wonโt let anything happen to you.โ
โOkay,โ Winifred replied.
Meanwhile, Vivian and Amber were just about to leave the store after buying some things when a man blocked their way, โHey there, cuties, want to grab a bite with me?โ he said, oozing sleaziness.
Amberโs round face scrunched up, her pretty eyes filled with pure disgust and impatience.
โWe donโt need anything. Get lost,โ Amber shot back.
โOh, got some attitude, huhโฆโ Before the man could finish, he suddenly found himself staring at a masked man whoโd appeared out of nowhere. โWhere the hell did you come from? Do you even know whose turf this isโฆโ
He didnโt even get the words out before he spotted the squad of bodyguards behind them, and instantly chickened out.
โSir, weโre just passing through, just passing through,โ the man said with a sheepish grin, then bolted without another word.
โAmby, what are you doing here? Whereโs Sienna?โ Hudson spotted Amber with a lollipop in her mouth and just grabbed it, tossing it straight into the trash. โTalk to me.โ
โHey,โ Amber yelled, and almost before he could react, she socked him hard in the chest. โDonโt think just because you helped us out, you can walk all over me, Hudson. Throw away my candy again and youโre dead meat.โ
Hudson clutched his chest, wincing. โDamn, that really hurt.โ
โHey, Amber, it was just a lollipop. Did you have to hit that hard? You nearly broke my ribs,โ he cried out.
Amber shot him a glare, unwrapped another lollipop, and stomped off.
Vivian raised an eyebrow, curiosity flickering in her eyes. โAnd you are? How do you know Amber?โ
โYouโre Vivian, right? Iโm Siennaโs friend. Tell her to keep Amber under control. Sheโs got zero manners. She almost killed me just now,โ Hudson complained, still rubbing his chest.
Vivianโs gentle, innocent face broke into a smile. โYou totally asked for it. You messed with her, didnโt you? And we donโt need your so-called help. Our bodyguards are literally right across the street.โ
โHeโs the one with no manners. And what kind of dumb nickname is that for Amber? It sounds awful,โ Vivian thought.
Hudsonโs face froze. โWait, so Iโm the one who brought this on myself?โ he wondered.
Vivian and Amber shared a ride home, while Sienna took Winifred straight to the hospital.
Sienna had just started driving when she suddenly realized the brakes were dead. Her pupils shrank in alarm.
Winifred immediately sensed her tension and asked, โSienna, whatโs wrong?โ
