Chapter 29
Mason didn’t know why he’d jumped in like that when he saw Vivian get smacked. He shouldered Lily aside hard, yanking Vivian behind him. “What the hell’s your problem? You off your rocker?”
The sight of Mason shielding Vivian stabbed Chloe’s heart. She clenched her fists, yet a twisted sort of satisfaction crept in. That bitch had it coming, she thought.
“What’s my problem? Because of her, my sister almost kicked the bucket. Now this bitch won’t even come with me to give blood.” Lily then turned to Vivian. “Vivian, you asked for it. My sister has ended up like this, all because of you two.”
Knowing her husband was a head doctor and Chloe was Mason’s all-time crush, Lily always ran wild in the hospital. Most junior nurses knew better than to cross her.
Vivian froze. Then Sienna’s words popped up in her mind. If someone hits you, hit back. Lily was out of reach, so she seized Chloe instead and smack—slapped her across the face. Hard.
Chloe screamed as she crashed to the floor.
Lily immediately rushed to her side, then snarled at Vivian. “You bitch. How dare you hit my sister? You’re dead.” Next second, she lunged like she was ready to tear Vivian apart.
Vivian turned to flee, but Lily grabbed a fistful of her hair and yanked her back.
“Look at this nasty bitch,” Lily shrieked. “After what she did to my sister, she won’t even donate blood.”
“If not for her, my sister wouldn’t end up like this. Where’s the fucking justice? Now she’s trying to weasel out.” As head nurse, Lily drew a crowd with her shout.
In front of everyone’s staring eyes, Lily dragged Vivian back to the ward, where Chloe was crying in Mason’s arms.
“You dare hit my sister! You’re dead.” Lily swung at Vivian’s face, but a hand caught her wrist.
“Who the hell are you?” Lily snarled and then looked up at the mysterious woman. Her eyes were sharp as ice. Every inch of her screamed danger. Lily couldn’t help but shiver.
Sienna stood there in her black dress, beautiful but icy. Her plump lips curved as her eyes turned cold. “You’re asking for trouble.” Then her grip tightened, and Lily’s wrist just snapped.
“My hand!” Lily howled, clutching her hand.
Chloe was also shocked, thinking, “Who is this woman? Gorgeous as hell—just being near her takes my breath away.”
Sienna yanked Vivian close, gently stroking her swollen cheek. With deadly rage in her eyes, she asked, “Who did this to you?”
At the sight of Sienna, Vivian broke down in tears. Bullied and trembling, she buried her face in Sienna’s arms and pointed an accusing finger at Lily. “She hit me.”
“Now she’ll learn real payback,” Sienna pronounced.
“Yes, Miss Enna.” The bodyguards behind her surged forward. Their slaps were ringing through the ward like gunshots.
Lily was beaten speechless. After ten hard slaps, she crumpled to the ground, blood and a tooth flying from her mouth. Chloe gaped, pale as a sheet, too shocked to react. Even Mason was surprised by Sienna’s sudden appearance.
“What the hell is this?” A man came barging in, took a look at the scene, and bellowed, “Lily, who did this to you? I’m calling the cops now.”
“Go ahead,” Sienna purred.
Her icy calm sent chills down the doctor’s spine. He wondered who she really was.
Sienna’s gaze locked onto Mason. “I warned you to stay away from my sister. Yet you kidnapped her. Do you have a death wish?”
Mason’s blood turned to ice, his words dying in his throat. That was when Chloe understood this stranger was Vivian’s mysterious sister.
Sienna snapped her fingers. Lani passed her a thick file. “You three scammed my sister for months, taking her blood with your bullshit disease. Save your breath. The cops already got all the proof,” said Sienna.
Chloe, Lily, and Ron Lane went pale as ghosts. Ron sputtered. “This is a hospital, and I’m the doctor here. Who gives you the right to question me?” Mason froze. The realization that Chloe wasn’t ill hit him like a punch.
“Son of a bitch.” The hospital director stormed in, landing a sharp kick on Ron. “Taking bribes in the hospital! You’re fired.”
Ron’s face went pale. “Sir, this is all a big misunderstanding, I swear I’m innocent.”
The director threw the paperwork right in his face. “You two abused your power for profit. If Miss Enna hadn’t come, I’d never have known how evil you are. You’re fired.”
The second the director saw that stack of evidence, he damn near passed out. Turned out Ron and Lily had been milking patients—writing fake charts, jacking up test fees, ordering unnecessary scans… all under the table, all under their MD titles.
Then he turned to Sienna. “Miss Enna, don’t worry. We’re definitely turning them over to the cops. They won’t get away with this.”
Sienna’s gaze locked onto Chloe. “Quite the actress, aren’t you? Don’t worry. We’ll make sure you get a permanent hospital bed.”
Chloe dropped to her knees, shaking like a leaf. “It wasn’t me. Lily made me do it. I swear to God.”
Lily’s face was swollen like a balloon, her eyes burning with rage. She had stuck her neck out for her sister, only to get stabbed in the back.
