Chapter 391
โIโm guessing your new faction doesnโt want to clash with your sisterโs, right? So instead of overexerting yourself, why not utilize the resources already available to you?โ
Fayโs words made Winifred pause, deep in thought. Worried she might perceive him as scheming, Fay slowly stood up. โIโve been by your sisterโs side for twelve years. Even if it cost me my life, Iโd never betray her. But hey, take it as a suggestionโentirely up to you.โ
Just as Fay was about to leave, Winifred called out, โAlright, Iโm in.โ
Winifred never expected to encounter Sean on her first mission. Sheโd just finished and was about to leave when Sean suddenly grabbed her ankle. He was sprawled on the ground, barely clinging to life, gasping for breath, and looking near death.
Winifredโs face remained blank, her eyes icy as she kicked him off without hesitation. But he latched onto her leg with a death grip.
She said coldly, โGet lost.โ
Sean gritted his teeth, stubbornly refusing to release his grip. โSave me, Iโll pay youโhowever much you want.โ
Winifred truly didnโt want to be involved in his mess. The last time sheโd interfered, sheโd ended up owing Fay a favor. She knew encountering him always spelled trouble.
No matter how hard Winifred kicked or punched, Sean wouldnโt let go. He clung to her leg like a drowning man grasping a lifeline.
After struggling, Winifred heard voices nearby. โSearch every inch! He has to be closeโhe canโt escape.โ
Someone said, โHeโs badly hurt. He wonโt survive this. Make sure heโs dead to avoid future trouble.โ
Another urgently added, โThereโs movement ahead! Hurry!โ
Winifred frowned, realizing she couldnโt dislodge Sean. With no other option, she hauled him up and dragged him to a hidden spot.
Sean continued struggling, so Winifred gave him a sharp slap, which finally subdued him.
Once the searchers left, Winifred helped him from their hiding place, hailed a cab, and took him straight to the Lecter family home.
โMiss, who are you looking for?โ The elderly butler opened the door.
Winifred said, โI found this man on the street. He said this was his home, so I brought him back.โ
The butler leaned closer, instantly recognizing Sean.
โOh my goodness!โ he exclaimed, raising his voice. โMadam! Sir! Mr. Sean Lecter is back! A girl saved him and brought him home! Hurry, come quickly!โ
In a flash, servants and bodyguards rushed out, followed by an elegant coupleโlikely Seanโs parents.
โI just found him on the street. No need to thank me.โ Winifred turned to leave.
Diane Lecter, Seanโs mother, hurried forward. โMiss, wait! Please, donโt go! You saved my sonโwe donโt know how to thank you!โ
Winifred replied, โNo need.โ
โMiss, you donโt understand. Heโs our only son, and youโre our familyโs savior. Please, come inside! Weโll do anything to repay you,โ Diane pleaded.
Diane did everything she could to persuade Winifred to stay. Winifred immediately sensed something was amiss. She thought, โIn this situation, any normal parent would rush to their sonโs sideโso why are they so focused on a stranger? Somethingโs wrong.โ
Winifred narrowed her eyes. โCut to the chase. If you have something to say, just say it.โ
They hadnโt expected Winifred to see through them so quickly.
Diane grabbed her hand, her eyes desperate. โMiss, I know what Iโm about to say might sound crazy, but itโs true. Not long ago, a priest told us my son was fated for disasterโdoomed to die unless a girl saved him. So please, I beg you, donโt go. Just stay a little longer, okay?โ
