Chapter 63

Amber didnโ€™t want to hand it over, but the next instant, the teacher snatched it right out of her hand. โ€œAll of you to the office. Now.โ€

Amber followed them, but Mia suddenly grabbed her arm, her eyes full of worry. โ€œAmber, is this all my fault? Maybe I should go talk to Wendy instead. Iโ€™ll explain everything. Itโ€™s all on me. You shouldnโ€™t have to deal with this.โ€

Amber knew Miaโ€™s family was struggling financially, and her parents had high expectations. Even a minor mistake would earn her harsh reprimands.

She patted Miaโ€™s shoulder reassuringly, โ€œMia, itโ€™s okay. Donโ€™t worry. I wonโ€™t tell them you did it. This is on me. I messed up. If you really took the blame for me, Iโ€™d feel guilty.โ€

I let Mia down by not finishing the task. I canโ€™t let her bear the consequences for my mistake, Amber thought. Amber always took responsibility for her actions.

Wendy snapped, โ€œWhy did you start this fight? Explain yourself.โ€

โ€œWendy, I swear it was Amber who started it. We didnโ€™t even do anything at all. She just lunged at us out of nowhere and started hitting us. It hurts so much.โ€

โ€œExactly, Wendy. All we did was catch her trying to give Adrian a love letter, and she completely freaked out and attacked us. Look. She even scratched my neck.โ€

โ€œClaire was just trying to calm her down, but Amber wouldnโ€™t listen. She straight up slapped Claire across the face.โ€

Just then, Claire stormed in, her face flushed with fury. โ€œAmber, have you lost your damn mind? How dare you hit me?โ€

Wendy was furious. โ€œAmber, first you neglected your studies, and now youโ€™re caught up in puppy love and even assaulting your classmates? This is unacceptable. Get your guardian here immediately.โ€

Wendy turned to Claire and ordered, โ€œGo get Susan now.โ€

โ€œYes, maโ€™am,โ€ Claire replied promptly.

Amber clenched her fists stubbornly and snapped, โ€œI wonโ€™t call anyone. They started it with their insults, and thatโ€™s why I hit them. They totally had it coming.โ€

Bang. Wendy brought her palm down hard on the desk. โ€œAmber, youโ€™re utterly incorrigible. How dare you defy my orders? You have no say in this.โ€

Amber clenched her jaw, saying nothing.

Susan Ward rushed in. โ€œWhat happened? Whatโ€™s going on here?โ€

Wendy was furious. โ€œSusan, this is your student. How do you even manage her? Her grades are already terrible, but today she barged into my class to act up. She wrote love letters to my student and even assaulted the girls. This isnโ€™t over. Iโ€™m calling her guardian and informing the principal. She is completely out of control, wild and untamed. Does she look like a student?โ€

Susan stepped forward to shield Amber. โ€œYes, Amber, you did go a bit too far today. Fighting is wrong. But there must be reasons behind this. Amber, tell us how the argument started. Why did you hit them?โ€

Amber looked up at Susan, biting her lower lip. โ€œThey insulted me first, and I threw the punches. Iโ€™ll answer for my own actions. No need to call my guardian; Iโ€™ll bear all the consequences myself.โ€

Wendy could barely suppress a scornful laugh when she heard this. โ€œYou? Take responsibility? Dream on. I havenโ€™t seen a single redeeming quality in you โ€“ just arrogance and selfโ€“importance, over and over. Take responsibility? With what? Mark my words, Amber. If youโ€™re not expelled for what happened today, count yourself lucky. Just wait. The principal will be here any minute.โ€

Susan demanded, โ€œWhat exactly did you say to Amber that made her resort to violence against you?โ€

The girls who got beaten stammered for a moment before selectively recounting the incident, emphasizing how Amber had attacked them.

โ€œAmber, Iโ€™ll be calling your sister. All involved parents will handle this matter,โ€ Susan announced. She rubbed her temples in frustration.

Jocelyn bolted straight to the school office after receiving the call.

Just thinking about Jocelyn gave Susan a sinking feeling in her gut. With such a negative influence at home, how could Amber not be affected? she wondered.

Susan decided to contact Amberโ€™s parents and ask them to come. โ€œHello? Is this Mr. Hart? Iโ€™m Amberโ€™s teacher. Sheโ€“โ€

Aiden hung up the phone and glanced at the doorway. Linda still hadnโ€™t returned, so he called Sienna.

Lana answered the call. The moment she heard that Amber was in trouble at school, she immediately reported it to Sienna.

Sienna said, โ€œLetโ€™s go. Weโ€™re heading there right away.โ€

Lana replied promptly, โ€œRight away, Ms. Enna.โ€

Jocelyn was the first to arrive at the office. Spotting Amber, she immediately strode over and pulled her into a protective embrace.

Staring down everyone in the room, Jocelyn demanded fiercely, โ€œWho did this? Who dared lay a hand on Amber?โ€

โ€œSo, youโ€™re her sister? Let me be clear. This is extremely serious. Not only did she assault my students, but sheโ€™s also involved in puppy love. Worse still, she refuses to apologize. I now have grave concerns about her behavioral issues,โ€ Wendy said sternly.

Jocelyn scoffed coldly, โ€œAre you even qualified to teach? Amber would never hit anyone for no reason. If she hit them, they absolutely deserved it. Just look at her face. She got hurt, too. You all ganged up on her. Iโ€™m calling the police. This is clearly bullying.โ€

โ€œWhatโ€™s your attitude? Her mistake is right there for everyone to see, and you stillโ€“โ€ Wendy was furious.

โ€œAmber, donโ€™t worry. I know itโ€™s all their fault. Weโ€™re not apologizing for anything,โ€ Jocelyn reassured her firmly.

Susan rubbed her temples. Jocelyn was utterly unreasonable.

โ€œWho do you think youโ€™re talking to? Amber hit my daughter. This isnโ€™t over. Youโ€™re paying for this, and Iโ€™m reporting it to the principal to get Amber expelled.โ€

โ€œExactly. Whereโ€™s the justice? Just look at my daughterโ€™s face. Sheโ€™s practically ruined it.โ€

Jocelyn shot them a disdainful look. โ€œWhatโ€™s that got to do with us?โ€

โ€œYโ€“Youโ€™re being completely unreasonable.โ€

โ€œWe demand accountability. Whereโ€™s the principal? We want him to handle this personally, or no oneโ€™s getting any peace at this school.โ€

Jocelyn ruffled Amberโ€™s hair and scoffed, โ€œSo what? Do you really think Amber gives a damn about this dump of a school? Let me make this clear. Even if Amber never sets foot in here again, sheโ€™ll still be way above your league.โ€

Jocelyn gently told Amber, "Donโ€™t be afraid, Amber. With me here, worst case, you will just drop out of this school. Your happiness is what matters most. No one can threaten you.โ€

Amber nodded hard. No matter what happened, Jocelyn would always have her back.

โ€œThank you, Jocelyn,โ€ Amber whispered.

โ€œJocelyn, this isnโ€™t the proper way to handle this situation. We need to get to the bottom of what happened,โ€ Susan reasoned.

Jocelyn lifted her chin and declared loudly, โ€œWhatโ€™s there to figure out? Itโ€™s crystal clear theyโ€™re the ones at fault. If you expect us to apologize, in your dreams โ€“ no way thatโ€™s happening. Even if Amber has to leave this school, I wonโ€™t let my little sister suffer any injustice.โ€

Amberโ€™s eyes welled up with tears as she looked at Jocelyn, deeply moved.

โ€œAmber, letโ€™s go,โ€ Jocelyn said firmly, grabbing Amberโ€™s hand and pulling her toward the door.
