Chapter 7
She probably didn't expect my audacity, even with the photos in hand. Confidently, I declared, "If they're fake, I'll leave." That was precisely my intention.
"To prove my innocence," I feigned helplessness, "I have no choice but to call that bald guy." I produced my phone, mirroring the screen onto the large display and initiated a video call. Everyone's attention was riveted to the screen.
A bald, middle-aged man answered. The manager, recognizing him, rushed to the camera, greeting, "Chairman, long time no see."
The room erupted. What further stunned Leonard was the chairman's next words: "Long time no see. My daughter hasn't caused you any trouble, has she, Audrey? What do you need me for?"
Gisselle gasped, "Impossible! Impossible!" and collapsed. I had simply stated that if my innocence couldn't be proven, I'd leave. I truly hadn't anticipated this—her father.
Leonard was speechless. He'd only known her father was wealthy, unaware of his position. The newly appointed supervisor was the chairman's daughter! The revelation shocked everyone.
"Dad, a colleague saw you picking me up and assumed you were financially supporting me. To clear things up, I'm calling you," I explained, panning the camera to include my colleagues.
My father, sensing his daughter's predicament, responded sternly, "Who has the time for such nonsense? A girl's reputation is paramount. Spread such rumors, and I will pursue legal action."
I turned to Gisselle. The threat of a lawsuit silenced her. She'd not only lost her job but faced legal repercussions.
To my surprise, Leonard appeared on screen, warmly addressing my father, "Hello, Uncle. I'm Audrey's boyfriend. I'll visit you next time."
Before I could explain our relationship, my father interrupted, "Nowadays, you young people call that dating? It's just playing together—it doesn't count."
Leonard's smile faltered. My father's assessment was spot on; he'd seen through Leonard's character immediately.
The onlookers whispered about Leonard's social climbing. The once-charming, wealthy Leonard had attempted to leverage his connection, only to be rejected by his potential father-in-law.
"Dad, I'll call you later. I have things to attend to," I said, ending the call. I then turned my attention to resolving the situation.
