Chapter 5
“Firstly, I didn’t come to steal the marriage; I came to congratulate Rhys on his wedding. I also came to break up.”
“I always do things with a clear beginning and end. Since I’ve decided to break up, I will make it clear instead of being deceitful.”
I looked at Rhys, my eyes firm. “Flirting with others while simultaneously being tolerant, understanding, and righteous toward the person you love is hypocritical.”
Rhys blushed, shame evident as I spoke. Seeing everyone staring, he felt embarrassed and quickly approached me.
Covering my mouth, he angrily gritted his teeth. “What on earth do you want? Do you want to embarrass me in front of everyone?”
“What can’t you say later? Why make this so embarrassing?”
I broke free from his grasp, sneering. “Go back? Can we still go back?”
Rhys stood there, stunned. After several seconds, panic filled his eyes. “You… are you serious?”
“When it comes to relationships, I’ve always been serious and never two-timed.”
The wedding scene fell silent. Everyone stared at Rhys in astonishment, especially Kaitlin’s relatives. They questioned him about his behavior and my presence, believing him to be a perfect gentleman making a sacrifice for Kaitlin’s last wish. Little did they know the truth.
Rhys, overwhelmed by the public scrutiny, opened his mouth to speak but couldn't explain. I quietly left.
Chapter 6
But at the hotel entrance, Rhys caught up. He grabbed my arm, exclaiming angrily, “Bridget, explain yourself! What do you mean by breaking up? Did I agree to break up?”
His grip was like steel, his eyes bloodshot and wild. He was rude and unreasonable. I struggled, unable to break free. In anger, I bit his hand.
He recoiled, staring at the bite marks, dazed. I glared at him. “Rhys, I’m not someone you can summon and dismiss at will. If you continue to pester me, I will call the police!”
My resolute attitude filled him with panic. To prevent further trouble, I said coldly, “Furthermore, you’re a married man. Don’t touch me.”
“Otherwise, how can you justify this to the bride you’ve loved for over a decade?” Rhys remembered his own words, guilt flickering in his eyes. He spoke hesitantly, “Where did you hear that?”
After a moment, he speculated, “Could you have overheard… my phone call with Jordan yesterday?”
“Yes,” I said. “Yesterday, I waited at the courthouse all day, but you didn’t show. Luckily, I overheard the truth. Otherwise, I’d still be in the dark.”
Rhys hung his head, shame evident. He clenched his fist, his face full of remorse. He spoke softly, “Bridget, I’m sorry.”
“On your wedding day, you chased another woman. You should apologize to your bride; she’s waiting for you.”
