Chapter 4
Calmly walking to the door, I turned and told Scarlet and Kolby, “Ask Drew which item in this house he’s paid for. Have him settle this account! Drew, don’t go to work today either. Take your parents sightseeing; enjoy the trip. It’s not easy for them to come here, so don’t leave any regrets.”
As I closed the door, I heard Kolby’s furious outburst echoing in the house. “Look at this mess! What did you bring home? Is this how she talks to us? Unbelievable! Tell her to get out, right now…”
Around ten o’clock, Drew messaged me. Unsurprisingly, it was probably to blame me. I replied with two words: “Break up.”
Drew panicked and apologized profusely, so I switched off my phone.
After work, Drew picked me up downstairs. He humbly explained that he’d spoken to his parents, and they’d accepted me. They’d had a negative attitude previously, but he hoped I wouldn’t… part.
I sensed something was wrong. In the morning, they’d been shouting at me to leave. How could their minds change so quickly?
When I got home, Scarlet greeted me warmly, smiling broadly. She smoothly took my bag and offered me slippers.
Kolby also offered a rare smile, inviting me to wash my hands and eat.
At dinner, Drew whispered, “Did you see? I apologized on their behalf. Please don’t blame them anymore, okay?”
I nodded and, by chance, noticed the bracelet on Scarlet’s wrist.
Seeing my gaze, Scarlet discreetly hid her hand, cleared her throat, and said, “Penelope, you’ve been with Drew for over half a year, right?”
I nodded. She continued, “Drew told me your mother runs a shop. Since we’re here, why not ask her to come tomorrow to discuss your marriage? What do you think?”
“Married?”
Already pushing for marriage? The change was faster than I expected!
“Auntie, we’ve discussed this. Work is important right now, so we thought we’d stabilize our careers before considering marriage.”

“No way!” Scarlet retorted firmly. “Settle down and build a career—settle down then build a career! As a girl, you should prioritize family. You can’t always think about work, right? Leave earning money and supporting the family to Drew. Once married, stay home and take care of this household, and us, the elderly couple. Do you agree?”
What the hell, Mom! Where did you get the nerve? I had to take care of the house and serve them constantly?
Even if that were true, with Drew’s limited means, the whole family would starve in less than two weeks. What were they thinking?
Before I could respond, Kolby decisively declared, “Alright, it’s settled! I’ll find someone to pick a date, and you can start preparing!”
“Dowry and gifts are formalities. Considering your situation, let’s save money. We can have a traditional wedding in our hometown, hire a local chef, and the cash gifts should cover expenses. That way, everyone's relieved.”
I was so shocked my eyes nearly popped out!
