Chapter 9

Kolby was overwhelmed by Scarlet's powerful presence, finding it hard to breathe. Scarlet, acting like a madwoman, clung to Kolby's arms, preventing the police officer from handcuffing him.

“No, no, no, Ms. Lynch. Drew's father knows he was wrong. For the sake of the children's relationship, let's discuss and negotiate, shall we?”

My mother gave her a disdainful look. “What's there to discuss? Where was that domineering attitude when you were hitting my daughter? Now you know about negotiation! If it weren't for legal protection, I would personally… How dare you talk to me about discussing? Mr. Koch, thank you for your efforts; please take her away quickly!”

Gaven nodded and, along with Drew, was handcuffed and led out. Drew seemed to have a breakdown, yelling at Kolby before leaving, “What have you done? You've ruined everything for me…”

Scarlet wanted to chase after him, but my mother stopped her. Just then, Darren's colleague arrived, holding a court-issued restraining order. My mother handed it to Scarlet, saying seriously, “Take a good look. This is an official court document stating your family must leave this house and not approach Penelope again. It's illegal to enter within six months. Do you understand? You have ten minutes to pack your belongings and leave, and you are not allowed to appear before Penelope again.”

Scarlet, already on the verge of a breakdown, asked in a dazed manner, “Where… where do I go? I…”

My mother interrupted, “I don't care where you go, but you have ten minutes to get out of my daughter's house.”

That evening, I went to the hospital for an injury assessment. I remembered the bracelet was still on Scarlet's hand—a bomb now! My mother told me not to worry.

I remained in the hospital for a few days. Drew, after slapping me, was detained for a day before release. Scarlet frantically searched for me, but I'd changed my number, blocked him on WhatsApp, and severed all contact. He had no choice but to find me at my workplace.

The assistant approached them. “Are you looking for Ms. Lynch?”

“Ms. Lynch? No, I'm looking for Penelope. She used to work here.”

“Penelope is Ms. Lynch. She's not here now. She mentioned a business trip a few days ago, and we haven't been able to reach her.”

As soon as I was identified as the company boss, Scarlet behaved as if she had gone mad. “She’s the boss! She didn’t tell Drew; she didn’t tell us… She’s a fraud!” She muttered to herself. “Penelope, you rolled out, rolled out and explained clearly!”

Drew sat on the ground, his face ashen, while his mother yelled in the hallway. He finally understood his mistakes. Scarlet screamed and cursed, prompting the assistant to kindly advise her against causing a scene, reminding her of legal consequences.

“I’m so angry! Why didn’t she tell the truth? Why deceive us when she’s so rich! This is a trap… Drew! She wants to harm you, right?”

Drew could only shake his head helplessly, his eyes filled with bitterness. Just as I worried about getting rid of these troublemakers, Gaven returned, this time with others, to arrest Scarlet.
