Chapter 87
Charlene had chatted with someone, and their interaction suggested familiarity.
“Granger.”
“Is that him?” Stewart was genuinely surprised. “I thought you two weren’t close. How did you end up sitting together?”
Charlene explained, “His niece fell into the pool earlier, and I rescued her. He came over to thank me.”
Stewart nodded. “Ah, that explains it.”
Charlene mentioned her colleagues, so Granger assumed she’d greeted a coworker and didn't look back.
As Charlene and Stewart walked away, Granger glimpsed their retreating figures, realizing the other person was a tall, well-built young man. Their silhouettes suggested a good match. Their comfortable distance as they walked further reinforced this impression.
“Uncle Granger…”
Daisy’s voice brought Granger back to the present. “Finished eating? Let’s head upstairs then.”
Daisy nodded. “I’m done.”
Granger, having finished eating, set down his napkin and went upstairs with Daisy.
Back in her room, Charlene prepared to relax with a book on the balcony, but her phone rang. It was Thorne. He only called for important matters, she knew. Answering with a cool tone, she said, “Hello?”
“Grandma wants you to come for dinner tomorrow night.”
Charlene paused. “Okay, I got it.”
The call ended abruptly. Charlene, unbothered, set aside her phone and returned to her book.
She slept well and woke early. After a morning run and a brief rest, she soaked in the hot tub.
A woman, appearing to be in her forties or fifties, approached, leading Daisy by the hand. Charlene recognized her as Daisy’s nanny, hired by the Harden family. Daisy’s earlier fall into the pool had been due to the nanny's distraction by an urgent call. Charlene's timely intervention had averted disaster.
The woman quickly thanked Charlene.
“Don’t mention it,” Charlene replied.
Expecting Daisy to be hesitant after her accident, Charlene was surprised to see her, clutching the nanny’s hand and a swim ring, cautiously entering the water. Soon, Daisy paddled toward Charlene, softly saying, “Ma’am…”
Charlene turned. “What’s up?”
Daisy didn’t respond, but swam happily around Charlene.
The nanny smiled. “Daisy likes you.”
Charlene smiled back, but said nothing. She had a work event and said goodbye to Daisy. Daisy, however, reached out with open arms. “Ma’am, hug.”
Charlene complied, lifting Daisy from the water.
After donning a dry robe, Charlene headed for the elevator with Daisy, planning to part ways on their floor. While waiting, Granger appeared.
Daisy’s face lit up. “Uncle Granger!”
Granger approached, reaching for her, but Daisy clung to Charlene, unwilling to let go, yet also wanting Granger’s embrace. Finally, she extended one arm to Granger, while her other hand remained clasped around Charlene’s robe. In doing so, she inadvertently pulled Charlene’s robe open, revealing her in blue lace lingerie. Her flawless skin, full curves, and slender waist were suddenly before Granger.
