Chapter 196
Mrs. Tudor, the nurse called softly. Alexander turned, radiating an intense presence. The nurse swallowed and handed him the medicine. โHereโs your medicine.โ
Alexander grunted, glancing at the emergency room. โWhatโs going on over there?โ
โMr. Stewartโs father is having a heart attack,โ the nurse replied.
Alexander frowned. Josephโs dad had a heart attack, but why is Elizabeth there? Did she become the Stewart familyโs personal doctor after the banquet? Thinking this, Alexander snorted. What skills did Elizabeth have? The Stewart family actually trusted her with Bryanโs care!
โMr. Tudor, you really need to take care of your stomach. Eat on time,โ the nurse advised.
Alexander frowned, grunted, and turned to leave. He couldnโt help but think of Elizabeth when the nurse spoke. Elizabeth had nagged him a lot over the years. Sometimes, when he drank too much, Nolan would bring him back to the villa. Heโd be dead drunk, and his stomach would hurt. Elizabeth would fuss over him, her thin form moving between the kitchen and living room. Heโd always ask, โElizabeth, arenโt you tired? Can you stop bothering me?โ
Sheโd gently reply, โIโm not tired, and Iโm your wife. Isnโt this what Iโm supposed to do? But, Alexander, please drink less.โ
He found her nagging annoying and didnโt want to listen. Now he wanted to listen, but she might not say it anymore. Alexander rubbed his stomach, got a cup of hot water, and took his medicine.
Bryan was resuscitated and needed to stay in the hospital for observation. Joseph went to handle the admission paperwork. Elizabeth stayed with Bryan, giving him a check-up.
โDr. Perry,โ the nurse alerted Elizabeth. Elizabeth nodded. The nurse said, โMr. Tudor was herโฆโ
Elizabeth locked up: โAlexander?โ The nurse replied, โYes. His stomach was acting up, so he came to get some medicine.โ
Caletta peripherally caught a prescription sheet nearbyโthe usual cardicine Alexander took. Honestly, taking these medicines frequently would lead to resistance. She decided not to say anything this time. Elizabeth initially wanted to ask someone to change some of the ingredients in his medicine. Elizabeth greeted Joseph and planned to leave.
Just as she stepped out of the hospital, she heard someone shout, โSomeone is about to jump off the building!โ โIsnโt that the woman from the emergency room? Call the police!โ
Elizabeth followed the sound and saw a woman in a hospital gown swaying on the rooftop. A name quickly flashed through her mind. Elizabeth hurriedly ran upstairs. The thoughtโฆ Linda is actually going to jump! Her will to live was so strong. She wasnโt even afraid of that man beating her and secretly came to the hospital for treatment. How could she be jumping off the building? Did that man come again?
When Elizabeth reached the rooftop, there were already many people there. The doctor was persuading her, โLinda, whatever the issue is, we can solve it. Donโt do anything foolish!โ โLinda, donโt jump! Letโs solve the problem, okay?โ
Elizabeth squeezed through the crowd, the bright rooftop lights illuminating Lindaโs swollen face. Linda saw Elizabeth and smiled gently. โDr. Perry, youโre here,โ she said.
Elizabeth frowned. The words felt like a thorn, as if Linda was saying goodbye; as if seeing that Elizabeth was there, she could leave in peace.
โDr. Perry, Iโm sorry,โ she said softly. Elizabethโs heart ached even more. โLinda,โ she choked up and reminded Linda, โDonโt step back and do anything foolish.โ
โIโm going to die sooner or laterโฆโ Lindaโs voiceโฆ
