Chapter 198
Elizabeth noticed Alexanderโs hand was bleeding. She glared at him. โArenโt you the same?โ
โDo good deeds without expecting anything,โ Alexander said, standing where Linda had been.
Elizabethโs heart skipped a beatโฆ He turned to her. โElizabeth, remember when you said you wanted to jump off a building?โ
She stayed silent.
โYou probably donโt. Let me remind you,โ Alexander spatted, raising an eyebrow. He smiled. โLast year, you messaged me one night, saying you were sick and if I didnโt come back, youโd jump and make me deal with your remains.โ
Elizabethโs face darkened. She had said that, foolishly. For Alexander, sheโd say anything crazy. But she valued her life too much to actually do it. Thinking back, she wanted to slap herself.
Seeing her sour expression, Alexander continued, โAnd three months ago, you said youโd jump because you hadnโt seen me in over a month. Remember which building? The Tudor Group building.โ
Elizabeth turned to leave, and Alexander called after her, โNot jumping anymore?โ
She stopped. Through Linda, she realized such actions would gain a manโs attention, only his disgust. Love and indifference werenโt forced; they developed naturally.
Elizabeth turned back, smiling. โNot jumping. I wonโt do any foolish things for you anymore.โ She smiled brightly under the rooftop lights, reminding Alexander of how she used to be in high school, always smiling and calling out to him. They hadnโt been like this in a long time.
โAlexander, Linda taught me a lesson, I hope someone teaches you one too,โ she said, raising an eyebrow and waving.
Alexander watched Elizabethโs carefree figure fade into the distance, his heart suddenly clenched with inexplicable unease.
Elizabeth returned to Lindaโs hospital room. Linda had called her down.
โStarting tomorrow, Iโll be your attending physician. Ms. Carter and I will treat your illness,โ Elizabeth said coldly, stifling a smile down at Lindaโs cheeks. โMy money doesnโt grow on trees. If you still want to end your life, we wonโt treat you,โ Elizabeth said seriously.
Linda shook her head. โDr. Percy, Iโll listen to you. I donโt want to die!โ Lindaโs will to live was strong. Elizabeth knew it from the start. Elizabeth always felt Linda was resilient. She had helped many people and hoped Linda wouldnโt let her down. Elizabeth furrowed her brows but eventually softened and logged Lindaโs notes.
When she left the hospital, it was night.
Chapter 195
Elizabeth saw Joseph waiting by the car. โYour father okay?โ she asked.
Joseph nodded. โHeโs admitted and asleep.โ
โLet me drive you home. Itโs late, and I donโt feel comfortable,โ Joseph said gently.
Elizabeth couldnโt refuse and got in the car.
โItโs Alexander,โ Joseph said.
โLinda was going to jump, and he saved her,โ Elizabeth said, looking at her wrist wound. It wasnโt serious, just scraped skin. She thought of Alexanderโs hand, which was more seriously injured.
โI mean, when you got into my car, Alexander saw it,โ Joseph added.
Elizabeth was stunned. Really?
