Chapter 249

Alexander was slowly losing his place in Elizabethโ€™s heart.

โ€œEsme, Iโ€™m not here to talk about Alexander,โ€ Elizabeth said, setting down her coffee. โ€œI want to talk about Grandma.โ€

โ€œWhatโ€™s there to say about her?โ€ Esme snapped, clearly hating Lily.

Elizabeth frowned. โ€œGrandma cares a lot about her reputation. The Tudor familyโ€™s status in Lishun is well-known. Do you realize how much trouble youโ€™ve caused them?โ€

Esme didnโ€™t care. Sheโ€™d do anything to marry Alexander.

โ€œIf you want to marry Alexander, you should show some respect,โ€ Elizabeth advised.

Esme sneered, thinking of all Elizabeth had done for the Tudor family. โ€œDo you think Iโ€™d become a servant to the Tudors just to marry Alexander like you did?โ€

Elizabeth fell silent. She had genuinely cared for the Tudors, but Esme saw it as servitude.

Before Elizabeth could respond, the cafe door opened. A waiter hurried over. โ€œSir, the cafe is booked today. Itโ€™s not convenient for you to come in.โ€

Elizabeth and Esme turned to see Alexander, in a white shirt, rushing towards them.

โ€œAlexander,โ€ Esme called out.

Alexander glanced at Elizabeth, then grabbed Esmeโ€™s arm. โ€œCome with me,โ€ he said coldly.

โ€œWhatโ€™s going on?โ€ Esme asked as he pulled her out. โ€œElizabeth is here too. Do you want toโ€ฆโ€

But Alexander had already dragged her outside.

Elizabeth watched them leave, frowning. She knew Alexander was probably angry. She picked up her coffee and drank it all. Esme had paid for it, so why not?

Her phone buzzed.

Felix: [It was Esme who did it, did you know?]

Elizabeth: [Yes, I know.]

Felix: [If you knew, why didnโ€™t you respond? I thought the message didnโ€™t go through.]

Elizabeth stepped outside and saw Alexanderโ€™s car speeding away. He was clearly furious. Did he find out Esme told the media? she wondered.

In the car, Alexander drove fast. Esme clutched the handle, nervous. โ€œAlexander? Whatโ€™s wrong?โ€

He kept overtaking cars at high speed. Esme felt scared, clutching her seatbelt tightly.

On the highway, with fewer cars, he sped up even more. He glanced at Esme, his face cold and dangerous.

โ€œDo you have anything to say to me?โ€ he asked.

Esme bit her lip. โ€œWhat do you mean?โ€

โ€œEsme, you know I hate being lied to.โ€ His eyes were dangerous.

โ€œAlexander,โ€ she hesitated. The car went even faster. Esmeโ€™s stomach churned.

Taking deep breaths, she trembled. โ€œAlexander! I was wrong! I shouldnโ€™t have told the media about your and Elizabethโ€™s marital issues!โ€
