Chapter 288

In the hospital conference room, Nick sat across from Esmeโ€™s parents, Leon and Allen. Henry arrived late. Esmeโ€™s situation was clearly a significant matter for the Russell family; they all made it to the hospital despite their busy schedules.

Nick flipped through Esmeโ€™s academic records and gave Leon, Allen, and Henry a serious look. โ€œMs. Russellโ€™s academic credentialsโ€ฆโ€ Nick began. Allen quickly interrupted, โ€œEsmeโ€™s credentials are legitimate. No funny business!โ€

Nick continued, looking troubled, โ€œin medical schoolโ€ฆโ€ Taking someone else's place in school was a serious issue, a crime.

โ€œWho reported this?โ€ Leonโ€™s face darkened. โ€œIsnโ€™t this slander against Esme?โ€

Nick forced a smile. โ€œMr. Russell, no need to worry. Weโ€™re still gathering evidence.โ€

โ€œTell me who reported it!โ€ Allen shouted, slamming the table. โ€œEsmeโ€™s in the hospital, and now theyโ€™re slandering her?โ€

Nick replied, โ€œIt was an anonymous report.โ€

โ€œAn anonymous report, and you suspend her? How do you know itโ€™s true?โ€ Allen was even angrier. Henry remained silent. Leon and Allen were aggressive, as if they wanted to attack Nick. Nick kept getting interrupted.

In the quiet room, Henry suddenly asked, โ€œWas this anonymous report from Elizabeth?โ€

Just then, the door opened. Nick stood up quickly upon seeing who it was. The Russells turned to look. It was Elizabeth. She was dressed in a clean black and white casual outfit. She knew she would be blamed.

โ€œIt wasnโ€™t me,โ€ Elizabeth said seriously, looking Henry in the eye.

โ€œWhy should we believe you?โ€ Allen stood up, pointing at Elizabeth. โ€œI think youโ€™re just jealous of our Esme!โ€

Elizabeth frowned. โ€˜Jealous of what? Esmeโ€™s fragility?โ€™

โ€œElizabeth, you and Alexander divorced because of your issues. You couldnโ€™t keep your man. What does that have to do with our Esme?โ€ Allen shouted. โ€œYou couldnโ€™t have Alexander, so you want to ruin our Esme. Your methods are despicable!โ€

Elizabeth was speechless. Allen had always disliked her, and now she had a perfect outlet for her anger.

โ€œI came to clarify that I didnโ€™t leak this information,โ€ Elizabeth said.

โ€œIf not you, then who?โ€ Allen shouted. โ€œYouโ€™re the only one jealous of our Esme!โ€

โ€œBe reasonable. What am I jealous of? If I were really jealous, I wouldnโ€™t haveโ€ฆโ€ given the spot to Esme back then! Elizabeth stopped herself. She looked at Allen calmly and said, โ€œHow Esme got into medical school, others might not know, but donโ€™t you? You not only donโ€™t appreciate me but also throw dirt on me. Disgusting,โ€ Elizabeth said coldly, avoiding explicitness out of consideration for their status.

Allen was momentarily speechless. Leon pulled the hesitant Allen back, signaling her to stop talking. Back then, Esme got into medical school because Elizabeth gave up her spot for Esme! What the whistleblower said was true. The issue was who leaked this information. Wouldnโ€™t this ruin Esmeโ€™s career?
