Chapter 389

โ€œBut heโ€™s still a kid,โ€ Elizabeth frowned.

Laura chuckled. โ€œHeโ€™ll grow up. Think of it as early training. You and Ms. Carter should go chill.โ€

Elizabeth stayed quiet. She didnโ€™t say much more and left with Amanda. In the elevator, Elizabeth watched the numbers change and heard Amanda say, โ€œSheโ€™s busting her butt for that assistant director gig.โ€

โ€œIs she up for it?โ€ Elizabeth asked Amanda.

Amanda grinned knowingly. โ€œOh, totally.โ€

Besides Mark, Laura was the best fit. Amandaโ€™s words made it clear to Elizabeth: the assistant director spot was basically Lauraโ€™s.

On her way home, Elizabeth got a call from Lila.

โ€œDone chatting?โ€ Elizabeth teased.

Lila sounded bummed. โ€œYeah, all done. My agent dragged me away. Donโ€™t miss me too much.โ€

โ€œWill I ever see my Lila again?โ€ Elizabeth joked.

Lila replied, โ€œCatch you at the cruise party.โ€

On the weekend, Elizabeth yawned as she came downstairs. Declan saw her looking sleepy and knocked on the table. โ€œElizabeth, Iโ€™m meeting someone for tennis today. Wanna join?โ€

Elizabeth looked up and replied, โ€œSure.โ€

โ€œThen go change. Iโ€™ll wait outside,โ€ Declan said, happy she agreed. She needed some exercise; otherwise, sheโ€™d get all sluggish. The weather was awesome today, sunny and perfect for sports. Elizabeth wore a white t-shirt and a black skirt.

At the tennis club, as their car pulled up, the club owner came out to greet them. โ€œMr. ercy, Ms. Percy, welcome!โ€

Elizabeth followed Declan, giving the owner a polite smile.

โ€œIโ€™ve got a reservation,โ€ Declan told the owner.

โ€œMr. Brooks is already waiting,โ€ the owner pointed inside.

Declan led Elizabeth in. As soon as they entered the court, they heard the sound of rackets hitting tennis balls. There werenโ€™t many people today, mostly girls. In front of court number ten, Elizabeth saw the guy she met in the car the other day, Kyle. So Declanโ€™s tennis buddy was Kyle.

Elizabeth felt a headache. Declan was already fifty but still played tennis with Kyle, who was in his twenties. Elizabeth doubted if Declan could keep up.

Kyle smiled and extended his hand to Elizabeth. โ€œMs. Percy, nice to see you again.โ€

โ€œHey, Mr. Brooks,โ€ Elizabeth nodded, quickly shaking Kyleโ€™s hand before letting go. Kyle looked down and acknowledged with a hum.

โ€œI need to take a call. You two go ahead,โ€ Declan said, turning to answer his phone.

Elizabeth watched Declanโ€™s back and then looked at the young people on the court. โ€œMy dad seems to be the oldest one here,โ€ Elizabeth said to Kyle.

Kyle laughed. โ€œDeclanโ€™s older, but young at heart. He chose this placeโ€ฆโ€

Elizabeth blinked and asked Kyle, โ€œAre you working with the Percy family?โ€

โ€œYeah,โ€ Kyle responded calmly and tossed a ball to Elizabeth. โ€œWanna play a game?โ€

Elizabeth caught it, looking at Kyle with mixed feelings. Elizabeth didnโ€™t know how to describe Kyle. He was different from Joseph, whose gentle elegance made people feel soft inside. But Kyle was calm and distant, polite yet with a hint of aggression. Elizabeth couldnโ€™t be bothered to delve into peopleโ€™s minds. She raised the tennis ball high and said, โ€œLetโ€™s do this!โ€
