Chapter 622

Alexander looked into Elizabethโ€™s eyes, filled with indescribable complex emotions, and finally, there was only silence. It was no doubt that he really didnโ€™t understand what love was. He didnโ€™t know what it meant to owe someone. He was always above it all, so how could he think that hurting her was his fault? His repeated โ€œIโ€™m sorryโ€ and โ€œI was wrongโ€ were just part of following the procedure.

โ€œYou treated your marriage like your company,โ€ Elizabeth sighed deeply, her tears unnoticed. โ€œYou demanded strictness in everything. But you didnโ€™t realize that marriage is a home, where it needs special care. Your partner needs your attention. A company is a battlefield, where strategy, results, and profits matter, and employees want their salaries.โ€

She thought she would never cry for Alexander again, never be moved by that terrible marriage. But she didnโ€™t know that the heart canโ€™t hide. Some reactions were beyond her control.

When she looked up at Alexander with tear-stained lashes, Alexanderโ€™s heart ached. For the first time, he felt the destructive power of Elizabethโ€™s tears. He had never thought Elizabethโ€™s tears meant anything until this moment. One tear from her was enough to take his life. He was truly hateful that he made Elizabeth cry. But what he didnโ€™t know was that during that marriage, she had cried countless times! During those sleepless nights, those moments when Elizabethโ€™s eyes wereโ€ฆ he was never by her side.

Alexander felt like he was heartbroken to death, his heart aching to the point of suffocation. He raised his hand, wanting to wipe away Elizabethโ€™s tears. But she turned her head, raising her hand to wipe away the bothersome tear herself. She was no longer a child who needed someone to wipe her tears.

She sniffed, her white dress looking particularly thin. She rubbed her arms, looking into the distance, and sighed. โ€œThis winter is really cold.โ€ But what was cold was not just the winter. What had grown cold was Elizabethโ€™s once passionate heart.

โ€œWhatโ€™s meant to end should end,โ€ Elizabeth withdrew her gaze and looked at Alexander. โ€œWhatโ€™s the point of continuing to entangle?โ€ Alexanderโ€™s eyes were bloodshot, and his face showed an unprecedented sadness. Elizabeth thought, โ€˜Making Alexander this miserable, she had won, in a way.โ€™

โ€œAlexander, this is all as you wished,โ€ Elizabeth smiled, her eyes hard, her moist eyes like a knife. Alexander reached out, wanting to hold her hand. Elizabeth stepped back, once again avoiding his hand.

Chapter 622

Alexanderโ€™s throat felt dry, and he looked at his hand, frozen in front of her, without the courage to reach out again. What is love? Is it seeing her cry, seeing her retreat, hearing her say itโ€™s over, and feeling the pain?

โ€œElizabeth,โ€ Alexander choked out her name, saying seriously, โ€œI understand what love is now.โ€ But it was too late for him to understand. He could slowly come to understand his heart. But Elizabeth wouldnโ€™t wait for him forever.

โ€œItโ€™s getting late, go back,โ€ Elizabethโ€™s voice softened a bit. It was a relief that Alexander understood what love is, allowing her to put an end to this relationship. She crossed her arms, smiled at Alexander, and turned to go back inside. Then she saw Declan coming out.

โ€œElizabeth, why did it take so long?โ€ Declan hadnโ€™t finished his sentence when he saw Alexander at the door. He should have guessed that Elizabeth hadnโ€™t come back because Alexander had come. And she must have kept Alexander outside to avoid disturbing him.

โ€œMr. Tudor,โ€ Declan quickly straightened up, his tone full of politeness.
