Chapter 731

Elizabethโ€™s phone suddenly rang. She glanced at Alexander and went out to take the call. It was Oliver. โ€œBoss, we found a man who entered Lilyโ€™s hospital room today.โ€

Elizabeth looked up and instructed Oliver, โ€œSend me a photo immediately.โ€

Oliver continued, โ€œWe tracked him outside the hospital. He got into a taxi, but once he reached downtown, I lost him. Boss, I did my best.โ€

Elizabeth asked, โ€œDid you see his face?โ€

Oliver replied, โ€œNo, this guy has strong counter-surveillance skills. He never showed his face the entire time. But from his build, he seems to be a very burly man. Looks like he might have been in the military.โ€

Elizabeth was silent for a moment before saying, โ€œCall Callum Percy back to the team and have him investigate this guy. Find out as soon as possible.โ€

The call ended, and when Elizabeth turned around, she saw Alexander standing behind her. She paused, gripped her phone tightly, took a step back, and then quietly looked at Alexander.

Alexander frowned and asked, โ€œWho are you?โ€

Elizabeth laughed. โ€œWhat kind of question is that, Mr. Tudor? Donโ€™t you know who I am? Of course, I am who I am.โ€

Alexander shook his head. โ€œElizabeth, do you have another identity?โ€

Elizabeth was puzzled. โ€œWhat are you talking about? Are you referring to me helping you investigate the person who harmed your grandmother?โ€

Seeing Alexander remain silent, Elizabeth continued, speaking to herself, โ€œThe high and mighty Alexander is indeed impressive, but the Percy Family isnโ€™t weak either. Surely, they know a few detectivesโ€ฆโ€

Elizabeth smiled and continued, โ€œIs it surprising that I know a few capable friends?โ€

Alexander just frowned at her, not believing what Elizabeth said.

Elizabethโ€™s tone was calm. โ€œYou donโ€™t believe me?โ€

Alexander pressed his lips together. โ€œElizabeth, why did you quit your job at the hospital and go to the research institute?โ€

Talking about this made Elizabeth a bit downcast. โ€œMy grandmother had a car accident, and her right hand was left disabled. She couldnโ€™t work at the research institute anymore.โ€

Alexander looked at Elizabeth in surprise. โ€œAlexander, thatโ€™s why I refused to be your grandmotherโ€™s doctor. My own family is a mess, and Iโ€™m still the director of the research institute. How many things can I handle at once? Iโ€™m very tired too,โ€ Elizabeth said. He has his business empire to build, but didnโ€™t Elizabeth have her own career to fight for?

Alexander was left speechless by Elizabethโ€™s words. Elizabeth looked at him and said calmly, โ€œAs for why I joined the research institute, do you still think, like some others, that Iโ€™m just a pretty face with no real talent?โ€

Alexander was about to speak, but Elizabeth interrupted him, saying calmly, โ€œIt doesnโ€™t matter. As long as I know the truth.โ€

Alexander knew that Elizabeth was still blaming him. Because he did think that way before.

Elizabeth didnโ€™t say anything more and turned to leave. Alexander followed her. โ€œLet me take you back to rest.โ€

Elizabeth shook her head. โ€œNo need. Iโ€™ll take a cab myself.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll take you,โ€ Alexander insisted.

Elizabeth frowned, looking displeased. โ€œYou should rest yourself firstโ€ฆโ€

How could she trust Alexander to take her? What if something happened on the way and she got hurt again? There were many things waiting for her to handle at the research institute; she didnโ€™t have time to recuperate.

Alexander paused as the elevator doors opened, and Elizabeth was about to step in. Alexander blocked the doorway and smiled, asking her, โ€œSo, you do care about me a little, donโ€™t you?โ€
