Chapter 731
Elizabethโs phone suddenly rang. She glanced at Alexander and went out to take the call. It was Oliver. โBoss, we found a man who entered Lilyโs hospital room today.โ
Elizabeth looked up and instructed Oliver, โSend me a photo immediately.โ
Oliver continued, โWe tracked him outside the hospital. He got into a taxi, but once he reached downtown, I lost him. Boss, I did my best.โ
Elizabeth asked, โDid you see his face?โ
Oliver replied, โNo, this guy has strong counter-surveillance skills. He never showed his face the entire time. But from his build, he seems to be a very burly man. Looks like he might have been in the military.โ
Elizabeth was silent for a moment before saying, โCall Callum Percy back to the team and have him investigate this guy. Find out as soon as possible.โ
The call ended, and when Elizabeth turned around, she saw Alexander standing behind her. She paused, gripped her phone tightly, took a step back, and then quietly looked at Alexander.
Alexander frowned and asked, โWho are you?โ
Elizabeth laughed. โWhat kind of question is that, Mr. Tudor? Donโt you know who I am? Of course, I am who I am.โ
Alexander shook his head. โElizabeth, do you have another identity?โ
Elizabeth was puzzled. โWhat are you talking about? Are you referring to me helping you investigate the person who harmed your grandmother?โ
Seeing Alexander remain silent, Elizabeth continued, speaking to herself, โThe high and mighty Alexander is indeed impressive, but the Percy Family isnโt weak either. Surely, they know a few detectivesโฆโ
Elizabeth smiled and continued, โIs it surprising that I know a few capable friends?โ
Alexander just frowned at her, not believing what Elizabeth said.
Elizabethโs tone was calm. โYou donโt believe me?โ
Alexander pressed his lips together. โElizabeth, why did you quit your job at the hospital and go to the research institute?โ
Talking about this made Elizabeth a bit downcast. โMy grandmother had a car accident, and her right hand was left disabled. She couldnโt work at the research institute anymore.โ
Alexander looked at Elizabeth in surprise. โAlexander, thatโs why I refused to be your grandmotherโs doctor. My own family is a mess, and Iโm still the director of the research institute. How many things can I handle at once? Iโm very tired too,โ Elizabeth said. He has his business empire to build, but didnโt Elizabeth have her own career to fight for?
Alexander was left speechless by Elizabethโs words. Elizabeth looked at him and said calmly, โAs for why I joined the research institute, do you still think, like some others, that Iโm just a pretty face with no real talent?โ
Alexander was about to speak, but Elizabeth interrupted him, saying calmly, โIt doesnโt matter. As long as I know the truth.โ
Alexander knew that Elizabeth was still blaming him. Because he did think that way before.
Elizabeth didnโt say anything more and turned to leave. Alexander followed her. โLet me take you back to rest.โ
Elizabeth shook her head. โNo need. Iโll take a cab myself.โ
โIโll take you,โ Alexander insisted.
Elizabeth frowned, looking displeased. โYou should rest yourself firstโฆโ
How could she trust Alexander to take her? What if something happened on the way and she got hurt again? There were many things waiting for her to handle at the research institute; she didnโt have time to recuperate.
Alexander paused as the elevator doors opened, and Elizabeth was about to step in. Alexander blocked the doorway and smiled, asking her, โSo, you do care about me a little, donโt you?โ
