Alexander lowered his head and couldnโt help but let out a sigh. He truly couldnโt understand how his marriage had become such a mess. Why did he hurt Elizabeth, who loved him so deeply? Did Elizabeth not have dignity, a heart, or feel pain? He was too harsh.
โHello, maโam.โ Suddenly, a waiterโs voice reached Elizabethโs ear, and she turned her head. The waiter was holding a glass of wine and a small bouquet of roses. โThe gentleman at table 23 asked me to bring this to you.โ
Elizabeth looked up. Table 25, to her right and ahead, was occupied by a man who looked quite gentlemanly. However, he seemed to be older, almost forty, perhaps. She wasnโt very fond of older men. โPlease tell him that heโs not my type,โ Elizabeth smiled gently.
The waiter, momentarily dazzled by her gentleness and beautyโit was the first time he had been this close to Elizabethโnodded repeatedly and turned to decline the offer. The manโs face darkened because he had friends with him. He took the wine and roses from the waiter, straightened his clothes, and walked toward Elizabeth. If the waiter couldnโt do it, he would do it himself. How could he pursue a woman without setting aside his pride?
Elizabeth saw the man approaching her. She turned on the โDo Not Disturbโ sign, but the man ignored it. He leaned in and greeted her enthusiastically, โHello Elizabeth, may I get to know you?โ He knew who she was. Elizabeth found it amusing.
โDo you see that? My ex-husband is right over there.โ Elizabeth glanced in Alexanderโs direction. The man paused. Alexander was here? He really hadnโt noticed! He had just arrived, and Alexander hadnโt been at his seat when he got there.
โMy ex-husband is trying to reconcile with me right now. Tell me, why would I give up such aโฆโ Elizabeth was quite blunt. But to reject someone, you had to be straightforward; otherwise, they might think they had a chance.
The manโs face darkened, and he tightened his grip on the glass. โElizabeth, I may not be as good as Mr. Tudor, but you donโt have to be so harsh.โ
โIf you donโt leave, I can be even harsher.โ Elizabeth finished the water in her glass and set it down. The atmosphere became tense. The man hadnโt expected Elizabeth to be such a tough woman. He let out a cold laugh and decisively took back his wine and flowers. โSorry to bother you,โ he said, and as he turned, he unexpectedly locked eyes with Alexanderโs cold gaze.
Alexander was swirling his wine glass, casually leaning back in his chair, his narrow eyes fixed on the man, his gaze slowly filling with mockery. Alexanderโs gaze was so piercing that it made the man uncomfortable. Anyone who could be here was no ordinary person. Alexander and Elizabeth really were a pair who didnโt give people any dignity!
Alexander stopped swirling his glass and turned his gaze to Elizabeth. Elizabeth gave Alexander a slight smile, as if thanking him for driving the man away. Alexander felt the strong aura emanating from Elizabeth.
