Chapter 891
Thrabeth had been in the ward for a long time, but Alexander still hadnโt returned. Just as she was about to leave, the door opened. Elara walked in, sighing, โI told you not to get involved! Now youโve hurt your hand so badly you canโt even take care of yourself?โ
Elizabeth was stunned. She saw Alexander following behind Elara, his right hand wrapped in gauze and hanging by his side. โWhat happened?โ Elizabeth asked in confusion, taking a couple of steps forward. โHis right hand?โ Wasnโt that the hand he used to support her yesterday? Could it be a bone injury? She had seen him driving today without any issues, just a bit of swelling.
โHe accidentally hit his hand while helping someone earlier,โ Elara explained. โIt was already swollen before, but he wouldnโt say how it happened. The doctor said itโs a bone injury and needs a cast, but he refused and just had it wrapped in gauze.โ
Elizabeth listened, feeling quite puzzled. Why did Elaraโs explanation sound so confusing? โDo you bleed?โ Elizabeth asked. Alexander immediately shook his head. โNo.โ What if she insisted on unwrapping it to check? Elizabeth was so meticulous; it would be hard to fool her.
โMy hand was really swollen earlier, so I went to get it checked,โ Alexander said, hiding his hand behind his back. โThe doctor said itโs not a big deal, just wrapped it up.โ Elizabeth stared directly at Alexander. Worried that she might have caused him some trouble, she said, โIโll go ask the doctor.โ
โHey!โ Alexander immediately reached out to stop Elizabeth. He looked at her, a bit flustered. Elara then said, โAnyway, the doctor said he shouldnโt use his hand for the next few days and should rest well.โ Elizabeth looked at Elara, who added, โMaybe we should hire a caregiver to take care of you at home.โ Alexander pressed his lips together, saying nothing.
Chapter 891
โCaregiver? No, they are not reliable,โ Lily chimed in. โNo matter how unreliable they are, they wonโt dare to show it in front of Alexander, will they?โ Elara questioned seriously.
Lily continued, โAlexander has a sensitive stomach and is picky about food. Would a caregiver know what he likes to eat? You know Alexanderโs temper. If heโs even a little dissatisfied, heโll fire them. By the time he gets used to that caregiver, his hand will probably be healed. Better not hire one.โ
Elara listened quietly, occasionally glancing at Elizabeth. Elizabeth watched the two of them go back and forth. โSo what do we do? I canโt take care of him; Iโm really busy,โ Elara quickly waved her hand, indicating she couldnโt handle it.
Lily laughed, โWhy not have him stay with me? I need someone to take care of me anyway; I can take care of him too.โ Elizabeth immediately said, โYou canโt.โ
โBut his hand is a serious injury, and itโs his right hand. We canโt just ignore him,โ Lily argued. Elizabeth didnโt know how to respond. Why did something feel off, but she couldnโt quite put her finger on it? The atmosphere in the room grew tense.
Alexander and Elara exchanged glances. He thought Elizabeth wouldnโt take care of him. She was avoiding him as much as possible now. Elara hadnโt expected it to be this awkward.
โI can manage on my own,โ Alexander said softly, with a hint of grievance. โAt worst, Iโll skip breakfast and just drink some water at night.โ Hearing this, Elizabeth felt even more puzzled. It seemed like they were trying to guide her into getting involved. So, was his hand really injured again? Or was he using this as an excuse to get her to take care of him?
