Chapter 476
Someone knocked at the door. It was a waiter carrying a tray with two glasses of aura water, designed to replenish energy.
โSir, Miss, the fighter jet experience can be quite draining. To prevent any discomfort when you leave, I highly recommend drinking the aura water,โ the waiter said, offering one glass to Shermaine.
Shermaineโs limbs felt weak as she leaned against Joshua. โMr. York, feed it to me.โ Whenever she had Joshua around, her lazy streak became particularly pronounced.
โDo you have a straw?โ Joshua asked.
โYes, sir.โ The waiter left and returned with a straw in the glass.
Joshua held the aura water while Shermaine sipped slowly through the straw. She took a few sips before releasing it.
โYou drink some too,โ she said.
Joshua shook his head. โIโm fine, no rush. Sheary, finish your aura water first. Then weโll go dance for a bit before heading back, okay?โ
Shermaine nodded.
Joshua truly didnโt seem to need the aura water. He looked perfectly composed and energetic.
Perhaps because Joshua was beside her, Shermaine didnโt notice the flash of nervousness and unease in the waiterโs eyes.
Joshua didnโt look at the waiter. Instead, he said, โPut it down and leave.โ
The waiter hesitated.
Joshua picked up the glass of water and took a sip.
Only then did the waiter respond, โYes, sir. Have a pleasant evening.โ He turned and left immediately.
The aura water worked fast. Within minutes, Shermaine felt her bodyโs vitality returning. Her mental energy recovered too, and the drowsiness that had been creeping in vanished completely.
After taking just one sip, Joshua set down the aura water and focused on helping Shermaine drink hers.
She finished the entire glass.
โIs that enough?โ Joshua asked.
Shermaine nodded. โWhat about yours? Why arenโt you drinking?โ
โI donโt really need it.โ Without changing his expression, Joshua poured the remaining aura water from his glass into the trash. โLetโs go.โ
Seeing this, Shermaine narrowed her eyes as realization dawned. โThere was something in the glass?โ
โProbably.โ Of course, only Joshuaโs glass had been tampered with. Shermaineโs was clean.
Her face instantly paled. โYou already took a sip!โ
โJust one sip. It wonโt affect me at all.โ Joshuaโs constitution was somewhat different from normal people. His recovery ability was exceptional, and something like this couldnโt harm him.
Shermaine quickly checked Joshuaโs condition, taking his pulse to confirm there were no signs of poisoning. Only then did she relax.
Then Shermaine and Joshua walked out hand in hand.
The waiter came in and saw Joshuaโs glass empty of aura water. Assuming heโd drunk it all, the waiter took the glass away without checking.
The ballroom had filled up considerably since Shermaine and Joshua had arrived. People were everywhere, creating a sea of formal wear and glittering jewelry.
Shermaine and Joshua made their way toward the dance floor, fingers intertwined.
Just then, a woman approached from the opposite direction and stepped on Joshuaโs shoe. As she stumbled, the red wine in her hand splashed toward him.
Joshua dodged back, but the wine still splattered across his suit.
โIโm so sorry, sir! Are you alright?โ The woman apologized.
Joshua accepted her apology but didnโt take the tissues she offered.
The woman awkwardly pulled her hand back but didnโt leave. She stood there, trying to figure out how to complete her employerโs task of separating the couple.
Shermaine raised an eyebrow but said nothing.
โSheary, I need to go to the restroom,โ Joshua said.
The womanโs eyes lit up. If he left, her task would be complete.
โGo ahead, Iโll wait here for you. Donโt be long,โ Shermaine replied.
Joshua leaned down and kissed her. โI wonโt.โ He was curious to see what Simon had planned by spiking his aura water.
