Chapter 99
Roy had gone all out for his apology: a grand, extravagant lead paired with a rather expansive GIF. Sure, it paled next to the sports cars, but at least this present was still perfectly respectable.
But what he was looking forward to most tonight was the arrival of Milady. His gaming rig was all set up; now all he had to do was wait for her to show up and have a showdown with him.
As the time drew near, he couldnโt help but feel nervous.
Joshua sat quietly in the shadows as Henry took a glass, added some ice cubes, and then poured in the liquor before handing it over.
Joshua took the glass. He was smoking more than usual today. Normally, he strictly limited himself to two cigarettes a day, no exceptions. Yet now, he picked up his lighter again and lit his fifth cigarette.
Finally, it was 9 p.m.
Roy glanced toward the door.
The door was open.
Then, he heard footsteps approaching.
Roy held his breath, only to see a waiter walk in. All his excitement instantly fizzled out.
โSeriously? A waiter? What terrible timing,โ he thought, feeling completely deflated.
But then, the waiter nodded slightly toward someone behind him and announced, โMiss, this is Room 001.โ
Royโs eyes lit up again.
Finally, Milady arrived, and he became overly excited. He had no idea what she looked like, but no matter. Even if she wasnโt pretty, he wouldnโt mind atโ
But the person who entered was actually Shermaine.
His excitement instantly froze.
Not Milady? No matter. He knew Sharmaine would arrive sooner or later.
Now, he could take the chance to formally apologize to Shermaine and maybe salvage his image.
Even Roy had to admit that Shermaine was drop-dead gorgeous. Her skin was flawless, her features were striking, and she had an amazing figure. He had been so blind before, letting his own prejudice keep him from seeing it.
Now, Roy was absolutely floored. He could barely even remember what Wendelyn looked like anymore.
But Joshua had always been so emotionally detached. Even with a beauty like Shermaine, Roy doubted heโd have any interest in that way.
Suddenly, he found himself feeling indignant on Shermaineโs behalf.
Just as he was about to greet them, Shermaine peered inside. She didnโt spot Joshua hiding in the shadows, but Roy did. After a brief pause, she asked, โWhoโs FilthShay?โ
What?
What did she just say?
Did she ask which of them was FilthShay?
Thatโฆ that wasโฆ
Roy stood frozen, his mind in complete turmoil.
Shermaine was Milady?!
So, all this time, he had been shamelessly chasing after her while running his stupid mouth behind her back!
Roy swayed unsteadily, on the verge of collapse.
โHave you ever been dying of thirst in the desert, only to spot an oasisโthen realize itโs just a mirage? Have you ever truly tasted despair? God, why are you doing this to me?โ he wailed inwardly.
All the color drained from his face. Roy just wanted to collapse to the ground and sob.
Shermaine couldnโt understand Royโs mood. When no one replied, she pressed, โSo, which one of you is FilthShay?โ
With his head down, Roy slowly raised his hand. โThat would be meโฆโ
Shermaine took one look at him and fell silent. Wow, he must be mortified, she thought.
Inside, Henry choked on his drink and quickly grabbed a tissue to wipe his clothes. He was dying to laugh but decided to give Roy some space and held it in for now.
He thought, Gotta hand it to Joshua. What a ruthless move. He really went all out this time.
No wonder Joshua said that hacker was working for him. He already knew the legendary Milady Roy had been chasing was actually Shermaine. Now, Roy had no choice but to give up.
Poor guy. Absolutely brutal.
Joshua swirled the glass in his hand, the ice clinking crisply against the glass. He took a leisurely, deliberate sip, then stubbed out his cigarette.
Shermaine walked in, calm and collected, and went straight to the point. โWarmasolo?โ
The hacker who had been pestering her was actually Roy, which was quite a surprise. Still, a solo match wouldnโt hurt.
Royโs face fell. โJustโฆ give me a moment to process this,โ he mumbled before shuffling to the corner.
