Chapter 186
The blood from the wound dyed the sliced apple red.
Noelle looked at the apple and felt that it was a pity.
She shook her head and said to Bennett, “It’s fine, Bennett. I’ll go and bandage it.”
“I'll help.” Bennett looked concerned and self-reproachful. He said, “I should have put the knife down first. I didn’t expect to cut you. Does it hurt?”
Noelle smiled at him and said, “It’s alright. It doesn’t hurt that much.”
“Come on, let me bandage you.” Bennett placed the knife on the coffee table and pulled Noelle over to the sofa.
He also asked the servants to bring the ointment for the wound and prepared to apply it on Noelle. “Let me know if it hurts.”
Bennett first disinfected the area around Noelle’s wound and cleaned up the remaining blood. Then, he carefully applied the ointment.
“Okay,” Noelle answered.
Seeing how attentive Bennett was, she was confused again.
Just moments ago, she had thought that Bennett had purposely hurt her, believing he hated her and wanted to bully her. But now, seeing his genuine concern, it didn’t seem like it was an act.
So did he hurt me on purpose? Noelle could not help but wonder.
She could not figure it out, so she quit. I'll believe he didn’t mean it.
After applying the ointment to the wound, Bennett carefully wrapped gauze around Noelle’s hand and instructed, “Try not to get it wet over the next few days. And make sure to apply the ointment again at night.”
“Okay.” Noelle retracted her hand and smiled at Bennett. “Thank you, Bennett.”
Bennett looked at Noelle’s innocent smile and raised his eyebrows slightly.
He wondered why she was so silly. This was the first time Bennett had met a young lady like Noelle.
Bennett’s lips curled into a playful smile as he gently ruffled the top of Noelle’s head. “Silly,” he said, his tone light and teasing. “You’re really easy to fool like this. Now, I’m starting to worry about you.”
Although Bennett sounded worried, Noelle didn’t quite agree.
She pouted and corrected him unhappily, “Bennett, I’m not silly! I’m very smart!”
“Heh, is that so?” Bennett smiled and said, “I also thought you were quite smart, but you are also silly.”
“I am not,” Noelle protested.
“Alright, you are not. Haha…” Bennett smiled.
This smile was full of mockery, and Noelle was extremely depressed.
She felt exhausted from trying to understand Bennett. His thoughts seemed so unpredictable, and no matter how much she tried, she couldn’t make sense of them. So, she decided to be direct.
Hence, she stared at Bennett and asked, “Bennett, am I that easy to fool in your eyes? Are you fooling me?”
Bennett blinked at Noelle. He smiled and asked, “You are so smart. Take a guess. Am I fooling you?”
“I feel like you are.” Noelle spoke bluntly.
Bennett said in surprise, “No way! Noelle, didn’t you say that you were very smart? How could you be fooled by me?”
Noelle was lost for words.
Realizing she had fallen right into Bennett’s trap, Noelle pouted and snapped, “I’m not fooled! I just feel like you’re messing with me, Bennett! That’s why I had to make sure!”
Bennett said slowly, “Then can’t you just use your smart little brain to confirm it yourself? Why are you looking for me again!”
“Can’t you just tell me?” Noelle was unhappy.
Bennett looked at her with a smile as he was amused by her reaction, and ruffled her hair gently. “Noelle,” he said teasingly, “how can you be so foolish? What am I even saying right now?”
Noelle realized.
Noelle felt like she was going crazy. No matter what she said, she could never outmatch Bennett. Being around him was exhausting.
Now, Noelle felt fooled by Bennett. This feeling was very unpleasant.
Since she couldn’t win, Noelle simply slipped away.
She stood up from the sofa and said, “I’ll go back to my room and get changed.”
“Go on.” Bennett crossed his legs and smiled as he watched the girl go upstairs.
After Noelle disappeared around the corner on the second floor, a servant stepped forward to clean up the mess on the coffee table.
Just as she reached for the bloodstained fruit knife, Bennett’s voice suddenly rang out. “Leave the knife,” he said calmly. “You can clean up the rest.”
“Huh?” The servant was puzzled. There is blood on the knife. Why does he want to keep it?
However, as an employee, there was no need for her to ask so much about the boss’s request. Hence, she agreed obediently. “Yes.”
After the other items on the coffee table were packed, the servant left.
Then Bennett picked up the fruit knife that was stained with Noelle’s blood and walked out of the house…
