Chapter 15
I turned, my voice icy: "Look, Hudson, you're officially the last person I ever wanted to see."
Pain etched his features. He offered an awkward nod. "Yeah... I found Noah's note. I know I messed up beyond repair."
"I just... I wanted to see you. Knowing you're alive is enough for me. How are you, Reese?"
"Without you around to destroy my life? Great. I'd be even better if you never showed your face again."
He blanched. He couldn't speak.
Finally, a bitter laugh escaped him. "Knew that was coming. Still held onto a stupid hope. But seeing your eyes now? That's it. I know I've lost you forever."
"I won't bother you again, I promise. You gave up everything for me—your career, your dreams, fifteen years of your life."
"I failed you both, you and Noah. I'll make amends. Go be free, Reese. I'll always wish you happiness."
The only trace of his presence was a damp spot on the ground, where tears had fallen.
A week later, my account was flooded with money. Then the news broke: Hudson had turned himself in. His hitman was arrested with him.
Days later, word came that Hudson had committed suicide in prison. He was clutching the "Angel" pendant.
No one knew how he'd gotten it inside. It didn't matter anymore.
When I heard, I gently touched Noah's photograph. My angel could finally rest in peace.
