Chapter 14
โIโm too busy for this nonsense,โ Hansel said.
โNonsense? Youโre the one at fault! How can you be such a miser? Donโt you know misers are as despicable as rats in the gutters?โ Tina retorted.
โGo bother someone else if youโre going to act crazy,โ Hansel replied, wondering what she was talking about.
Tina ignored him. โMiranda has been taking care of youโat home and in the bedroom. How can you not give her an allowance? She even has to work as hired help! Wonโt you be embarrassed if anyone finds out?โ
Hansel paused. โWho are you talking about?โ
โMiranda, of course.โ
โWhat do you mean sheโs working as hired help?โ
Tina recounted what sheโd seen. โYouโve gone too far this time. Even though sheโs attentive, you canโt treat her like thisโโ Her words trailed off as Hansel stopped listening.
All he could think about was Miranda working as hired help. It seemed she hadn't dared to use the $50 million, even after cashing his check.
He loosened his tie, his expression unreadable. Heโd assumed sheโd managed to work things out since sheโd left without hesitation. But now it seemed she could barely survive without him.
โHansel, what are you spacing out for? Itโs your turn,โ Sam said, pointing to the dice in Hanselโs hand.
โIโm leaving,โ Hansel said, grabbing his coat and keys.
โWerenโt you the one who suggested this meeting?โ Sam asked, dumbfounded.
โNot anymore. I have other matters to attend to,โ Hansel replied.
Would Miranda beg him to take her home? he wondered.
Hansel waited in his car. Aside from work calls and messages, he hadnโt received the call he expected. He decided to take action and drove to Winterโs condo.
Miranda had no one in Duncherton City. Whenever they fought, sheโd gone to Winterโs. Heโd picked her up from there many times, so he didn't need a navigation app to find it.
โHansel?โ
As Hansel got out of his car, Winter called his name. She was walking home, arm in arm with a young man.
โWhat are you doing here?โ Winter asked warily.
โWhereโs Miranda?โ Hansel demanded.
โWhat do you want?โ
โIโm asking you where Miranda is!โ he snapped.
Hansel disliked Winter; she was bold and frivolous. Heโd warned Miranda to stay away from her, fearing her influence, but Miranda had disobeyed him, worsening his opinion of Winter.
Winter refused to cooperate. โYou broke up. Who are you to demand her whereabouts?โ
Hansel smirked. โAnd how many times have we broken up? Can you even count?โ
โSo?โ
โThereโs no use stopping me from seeing her. Youโre wasting your time.โ He was certain Miranda would eventually beg for reconciliation.
Winter was angered by his arrogance. โIs Mimiโs dignity worth nothing to you? Do you think you can neglect her or call her back whenever you please? Sheโs clearly unimportant to you.โ
Hansel dismissed her. โIโll find her myself if you wonโt tell me where she is.โ
Marshall Gray, the young man with Winter, stepped forward. โSir, itโs wrong to enter someoneโs residence without permission.โ
Hansel ignored him, glaring at Winter. He smirked and nodded. โI wonโt forget this. But itโs pointless. Sheโll come crawling back like an obedient lamb.โ
