Chapter 21

โ€œI have something else to attend to. Iโ€™ll be going,โ€ Miranda said.

Micah wouldnโ€™t let her leave so easily. โ€œAll these years, Hansel has treated you like a possession and kept you hidden in his house. I couldnโ€™t even meet you.โ€

Miranda looked up, her smile fading. โ€œWhat are you trying to say?โ€

Micah replied, โ€œBack then, you rejected both of us, but ultimately chose him. It was only because he persisted longer and was more clingy.โ€

โ€œBut did you consider that his persistence stemmed from a competitive rivalry?โ€

At that moment, Mirandaโ€™s already broken heart shattered further. What sheโ€™d thought was deep affection had been nothing more than a manโ€™s competitive spirit?

Noticing her pale face, Micah felt sorry. He reached for her face, but she stepped back, creating distance between them. โ€œMr. Lawson, please show some self-respect,โ€ she said.

Micah pressed closer. โ€œStop pretending. I know you two have broken up.โ€

โ€œSo what?โ€ Miranda asked, a smile playing on her lips.

โ€œMimi, you should be with me. Iโ€™ll cherish and love you more than Hansel. Iโ€™ll do my best to fulfill your wishes, as long as youโ€™re with me.โ€

Whether six years ago or now, Micahโ€™s heart still raced at the sight of Miranda. He knew heโ€™d never forgotten her.

Miranda smiled. โ€œDo you think Iโ€™d jump into another lionโ€™s den after escaping one? Mr. Lawson, it was nice meeting you, but letโ€™s go our separate ways.โ€

With that, she turned and left. She wanted nothing to do with either Hansel or Micah, and wished they would stop bothering her.

Micahโ€™s eyes darkened as he watched Mirandaโ€™s slender figure depart. He sighed softly, then chuckled and mumbled, โ€œMimi, you canโ€™t stop this alone. Do you think you can escape?โ€

Unbeknownst to him, someone had witnessed the entire scene from afar.

Zach glanced at the photo heโ€™d taken and smiled smugly. Sam happened to be nearby. Heโ€™d stepped outside for a breather and saw Zachโ€™s sly grin and phone.

โ€œWhatโ€™s with that creepy smile?โ€ Sam asked.

Zach ignored the insult. He smugly showed Sam his phone.

Sam quickly recognized the people on the screen. โ€œMiranda?โ€

Zach hummed in acknowledgment, clearly relishing the gossip. โ€œAnd Micah. Iโ€™ve sent it to Hansel.โ€

Theyโ€™d both witnessed the years-long rivalry between the two men over Miranda. They still shook their heads remembering Hanselโ€™s obsessive behavior.

Samโ€™s expression grew serious. โ€œTheyโ€™ve just broken up, and Micah shows up immediately. Besides, judging by Mirandaโ€™s attitudeโ€ฆโ€

He paused, then continued in a meaningful tone. โ€œI think this breakup is for real this time.โ€

โ€œNo, no, no. Miranda wouldnโ€™t do that. Just wait and see. Sheโ€™ll never break up with Hansel. Sheโ€™ll never leave him.โ€

โ€œThen why did you send that photo to Hansel?โ€

Zach shrugged. โ€œItโ€™s a joke. I wanted to see the drama unfold. Itโ€™s harmless, right?โ€

Sam raised an eyebrow. โ€œDonโ€™t push it too far, or itโ€™ll affect your friendship.โ€

โ€œAll I did was take a picture. Besides, look how Hanselโ€™s treating Miranda. Sheโ€™s his ex. He wonโ€™t take it seriously. Look at the photoโ€”the angle is perfect. The vibe isโ€ฆ perfect.โ€

Samโ€™s gaze fell on Mirandaโ€™s pretty profile. โ€œYouโ€™re right; sheโ€™s his ex. Itโ€™s natural for other men to pursue her.โ€
