Chapter 21
โI have something else to attend to. Iโll be going,โ Miranda said.
Micah wouldnโt let her leave so easily. โAll these years, Hansel has treated you like a possession and kept you hidden in his house. I couldnโt even meet you.โ
Miranda looked up, her smile fading. โWhat are you trying to say?โ
Micah replied, โBack then, you rejected both of us, but ultimately chose him. It was only because he persisted longer and was more clingy.โ
โBut did you consider that his persistence stemmed from a competitive rivalry?โ
At that moment, Mirandaโs already broken heart shattered further. What sheโd thought was deep affection had been nothing more than a manโs competitive spirit?
Noticing her pale face, Micah felt sorry. He reached for her face, but she stepped back, creating distance between them. โMr. Lawson, please show some self-respect,โ she said.
Micah pressed closer. โStop pretending. I know you two have broken up.โ
โSo what?โ Miranda asked, a smile playing on her lips.
โMimi, you should be with me. Iโll cherish and love you more than Hansel. Iโll do my best to fulfill your wishes, as long as youโre with me.โ
Whether six years ago or now, Micahโs heart still raced at the sight of Miranda. He knew heโd never forgotten her.
Miranda smiled. โDo you think Iโd jump into another lionโs den after escaping one? Mr. Lawson, it was nice meeting you, but letโs go our separate ways.โ
With that, she turned and left. She wanted nothing to do with either Hansel or Micah, and wished they would stop bothering her.
Micahโs eyes darkened as he watched Mirandaโs slender figure depart. He sighed softly, then chuckled and mumbled, โMimi, you canโt stop this alone. Do you think you can escape?โ
Unbeknownst to him, someone had witnessed the entire scene from afar.
Zach glanced at the photo heโd taken and smiled smugly. Sam happened to be nearby. Heโd stepped outside for a breather and saw Zachโs sly grin and phone.
โWhatโs with that creepy smile?โ Sam asked.
Zach ignored the insult. He smugly showed Sam his phone.
Sam quickly recognized the people on the screen. โMiranda?โ
Zach hummed in acknowledgment, clearly relishing the gossip. โAnd Micah. Iโve sent it to Hansel.โ
Theyโd both witnessed the years-long rivalry between the two men over Miranda. They still shook their heads remembering Hanselโs obsessive behavior.
Samโs expression grew serious. โTheyโve just broken up, and Micah shows up immediately. Besides, judging by Mirandaโs attitudeโฆโ
He paused, then continued in a meaningful tone. โI think this breakup is for real this time.โ
โNo, no, no. Miranda wouldnโt do that. Just wait and see. Sheโll never break up with Hansel. Sheโll never leave him.โ
โThen why did you send that photo to Hansel?โ
Zach shrugged. โItโs a joke. I wanted to see the drama unfold. Itโs harmless, right?โ
Sam raised an eyebrow. โDonโt push it too far, or itโll affect your friendship.โ
โAll I did was take a picture. Besides, look how Hanselโs treating Miranda. Sheโs his ex. He wonโt take it seriously. Look at the photoโthe angle is perfect. The vibe isโฆ perfect.โ
Samโs gaze fell on Mirandaโs pretty profile. โYouโre right; sheโs his ex. Itโs natural for other men to pursue her.โ
