Chapter 0212
In the lab, Sandy called out, โSilas, youโre great at quick calculations. Can you figure out this data set for me? I need it urgently!โ
Silas was also swamped. โUse the computer; I donโt have time right now.โ
โCome on, this is important! Just take a quick look; it wonโt take you more than a few minutes!โ
Silas casually pointed to the lab bench across from him where Miranda was working. โAsk her. She can do it.โ
After that error correction incident, everyone had witnessed Mirandaโs skills. Only Elizabeth still believed Mirandaโs success was just a fluke, like a blind cat stumbling upon a dead mouse.
โWhatโs up, Sandy? Need help?โ Miranda offered.
Sandy immediately replied, โYes, please! Can you take a look at thisโฆโ
Two minutes later, Miranda said, โAll done. Iโve sent the results to your internal e-mail.โ
Sandy was stunned. โAlready? That fast?โ
Silas paused his work, putting it aside to request the data from Sandy. โLet me see it.โ
Sandy rolled her eyes. โWhen I asked you to do it, you said you were busy, but now that itโs done, you want to calculate it again. What a waste of time!โ
Silas ignored her grumbling and got to work, fully focused on the calculations.
Curious, Bryan glanced at his watch to time him.
โDone. How long did it take?โ Silas asked.
Bryan checked the time. โTwo minutes and five seconds.โ
Miranda had also taken just over two minutes. Silasโs eyes lit up as if he had discovered a hidden treasure. He eyed Miranda with interest as he asked, โDid you study speed calculation?โ
Miranda replied with a slight smile, โDoes mental arithmetic count?โ
โWhen did you learn that?โ Silas asked, intrigued.
โWhen I was five? Or six? Sorry, itโs been so long that Iโve forgotten,โ Miranda said, slightly embarrassed as she scratched her head.
Silas swallowed hard. โThatโsโฆ it?โ
โUmmโฆ Is there supposed to be more?โ Miranda asked, feeling somewhat puzzled.
Silas sighed. Comparisons could truly be infuriating!
Bryan, who was eager and full of energy, chimed in, โIโve been learning speed calculation from Dr. Quinton too. Miranda, how about a little competition?โ
Everyoneโs eyes immediately turned to him. Silas quickly nodded. โGreat idea! Bryan has been learning from me for over half a year now. You two can go head-to-head; itโll be a perfect test of his progress.โ
โIโll set the questions, and the rules are simple: whoever answers the most questions correctly in ten minutes and takes the least amount of time wins. How does that sound?โ
Sandy joined in, excited to stir the pot. โIf weโre gonna do this, letโs make it interesting. How about the loser treating everyone to dinner?โ
Bryan rolled up his sleeves, ready for action. โBring it on! Iโm not afraid. And if someone else is paying, Iโm definitely getting my fill today.โ
Miranda was rather fond of such a lively environment. She smiled warmly. โSure, the loser buys dinner, but it looks like youโll be the one picking up the tab, Bryan.โ
Seeing this side of the usually gentle Miranda sparked excitement among the group. Elizabeth, however, just rolled her eyes.
โWho does she think she is? Acting like sheโs some kind of geniusโฆโ she muttered under her breath, loud enough for only Bryan, who was closest, to hear.
Sandy rubbed her hands together, eagerly waiting. โSilas, hurry up and get those questions ready. I canโt wait to see this!โ
Silas swiftly scribbled down five questions in under 30 seconds. โReady? Thenโฆ start the time!โ
Miranda glanced at the questions and immediately knew they were straightforward โ no need for complex formulas or special thinking, just quick and accurate calculations.
It was a race of speed and precision.
By the third minute, Miranda had completed two questions. Bryan was even faster, already working on the third.
Sandy and Silas exchanged glances, their anticipation building.
