Chapter 0219

Hansel staggered slightly. โ€œWhat do you mean by that?โ€

โ€œYou really donโ€™t get it, do you?โ€ Sam replied. โ€œYou think you hid everything perfectly, but Mirandaโ€™s not stupid.โ€

Hansel sensed something else in Samโ€™s words. He grabbed Samโ€™s collar, his eyes fierce. โ€œWhat exactly did you tell her?โ€

Sam smirked. โ€œIt seems like you still havenโ€™t figured out why you two broke up.โ€

โ€œYou act like you know everything!โ€ Hansel retorted.

Sam responded, โ€œI do knowโ€”โ€

โ€œShut up!โ€ Hansel shouted.

Sam shoved him off and straightened his collar, looking down at him. โ€œLook at you right now, like a mangy dog.โ€

Calvin intervened, โ€œEnough! Canโ€™t you two just quit it? Our bonds are as close as real brothers. Why are you hurting each other?โ€

Hansel spat, โ€œWho wants to be brothers with him!โ€

Sam added, โ€œI donโ€™t have a brother like him.โ€

Calvin sighed, feeling the strain between them.

Hansel pointed at Sam and warned, โ€œStay away from Miranda, or elseโ€”โ€

Sam calmly asked, โ€œOr else what?โ€

Hansel growled, โ€œDonโ€™t make me forget all the years weโ€™ve known each other!โ€

Sam replied coldly, โ€œThreats wonโ€™t work on me. Even if itโ€™s not me, thereโ€™ll be someone else. But one thing will remain the same.โ€

He emphasized each word, โ€œYou will lose Miranda for good. Thereโ€™s no way to fix this, and no way to make it right."

โ€œIf you donโ€™t want her to hate you even more, do yourself a favor and stop pestering her. The more you push, the further youโ€™ll drive her away.โ€

After saying his piece, Sam brushed past Hansel and patted Calvin on the shoulder. โ€œThanks for dealing with this. Keep an eye on him and make sure he doesnโ€™t cause more trouble.โ€

Then, he strode off without looking back.

Calvin glanced at Hansel, who stood there, lost and devastated. He couldnโ€™t help but sigh deeply, feeling the weight of the situation.

If Hansel knew this would happen, why did he do it in the first place?

โ€œCalโ€ฆโ€

โ€œHans,โ€ Calvin quickly stepped forward to support him. โ€œLetโ€™s go back, okay?โ€

Hanselโ€™s eyes were vacant. His expression looked lost. โ€œWhy wonโ€™t she forgive me? No matter how much we fought before, how bad it got, sheโ€™d always come back to meโ€ฆ Why not this time? Why?โ€

Calvin paused, then said softly, โ€œHans, have you ever thought that when a bird stays in a cage for a long time, itโ€™s not because the cage is so secure but because she willingly traps herself there?โ€

โ€œThen why doesnโ€™t she want to stay now?โ€

Calvin replied, โ€œBecause sheโ€™s disappointed, hurt, and finally decided not to love you anymore.โ€

And so, she flew away without looking back.

โ€œNot loving me anymoreโ€ฆโ€

It was the second time Hansel had heard those words. The first had come from Miranda herself.

โ€œI apologized and admitted I was wrong. Isnโ€™t that enough?โ€ he asked.

Calvinโ€™s lips tightened. After a moment, he said, โ€œNot every problem can be solved with an apology.โ€

โ€œThen what does she want from me? Should I rip my heart out and give it to her!โ€

Calvin realized Hansel was truly drunk. When sober, he would never say such self-pitying things in front of him.

โ€œHans, letโ€™s not deal with this now. Sleep it off first, and then weโ€™ll talk. Come on, Iโ€™ll take you home.โ€

Calvin wrapped Hanselโ€™s arm around his shoulder, guiding him step by step toward the mouth of the alley.

Suddenly, Hansel stopped, as if remembering something. He pushed Calvin away and headed back toward the building.

โ€œHeyโ€”Hans, where are you going?โ€
