Chapter 0219
Hansel staggered slightly. โWhat do you mean by that?โ
โYou really donโt get it, do you?โ Sam replied. โYou think you hid everything perfectly, but Mirandaโs not stupid.โ
Hansel sensed something else in Samโs words. He grabbed Samโs collar, his eyes fierce. โWhat exactly did you tell her?โ
Sam smirked. โIt seems like you still havenโt figured out why you two broke up.โ
โYou act like you know everything!โ Hansel retorted.
Sam responded, โI do knowโโ
โShut up!โ Hansel shouted.
Sam shoved him off and straightened his collar, looking down at him. โLook at you right now, like a mangy dog.โ
Calvin intervened, โEnough! Canโt you two just quit it? Our bonds are as close as real brothers. Why are you hurting each other?โ
Hansel spat, โWho wants to be brothers with him!โ
Sam added, โI donโt have a brother like him.โ
Calvin sighed, feeling the strain between them.
Hansel pointed at Sam and warned, โStay away from Miranda, or elseโโ
Sam calmly asked, โOr else what?โ
Hansel growled, โDonโt make me forget all the years weโve known each other!โ
Sam replied coldly, โThreats wonโt work on me. Even if itโs not me, thereโll be someone else. But one thing will remain the same.โ
He emphasized each word, โYou will lose Miranda for good. Thereโs no way to fix this, and no way to make it right."
โIf you donโt want her to hate you even more, do yourself a favor and stop pestering her. The more you push, the further youโll drive her away.โ
After saying his piece, Sam brushed past Hansel and patted Calvin on the shoulder. โThanks for dealing with this. Keep an eye on him and make sure he doesnโt cause more trouble.โ
Then, he strode off without looking back.
Calvin glanced at Hansel, who stood there, lost and devastated. He couldnโt help but sigh deeply, feeling the weight of the situation.
If Hansel knew this would happen, why did he do it in the first place?
โCalโฆโ
โHans,โ Calvin quickly stepped forward to support him. โLetโs go back, okay?โ
Hanselโs eyes were vacant. His expression looked lost. โWhy wonโt she forgive me? No matter how much we fought before, how bad it got, sheโd always come back to meโฆ Why not this time? Why?โ
Calvin paused, then said softly, โHans, have you ever thought that when a bird stays in a cage for a long time, itโs not because the cage is so secure but because she willingly traps herself there?โ
โThen why doesnโt she want to stay now?โ
Calvin replied, โBecause sheโs disappointed, hurt, and finally decided not to love you anymore.โ
And so, she flew away without looking back.
โNot loving me anymoreโฆโ
It was the second time Hansel had heard those words. The first had come from Miranda herself.
โI apologized and admitted I was wrong. Isnโt that enough?โ he asked.
Calvinโs lips tightened. After a moment, he said, โNot every problem can be solved with an apology.โ
โThen what does she want from me? Should I rip my heart out and give it to her!โ
Calvin realized Hansel was truly drunk. When sober, he would never say such self-pitying things in front of him.
โHans, letโs not deal with this now. Sleep it off first, and then weโll talk. Come on, Iโll take you home.โ
Calvin wrapped Hanselโs arm around his shoulder, guiding him step by step toward the mouth of the alley.
Suddenly, Hansel stopped, as if remembering something. He pushed Calvin away and headed back toward the building.
โHeyโHans, where are you going?โ
