Chapter 0266
โDo you have a solution?โ Silas asked.
Miranda said, โFirst, we must recover the deleted experimental data and check the deletion records. We can then determine when the data was deleted and figure out who was in the laboratory at that moment.โ
He responded, โThat sounds good, but who will recover the data? The recycle bin is already empty. It might be tough to retrieve anything.โ
โI can try,โ she said.
Miranda hadnโt mentioned this earlier because data recovery takes time, and checking the surveillance footage was the quickest way. However, it was clear now that the situation was beyond what the surveillance footage could resolve.
When she sat at the computer and placed her hands on the keyboard, Paul suddenly stopped her. Everyone, including Miranda, looked at him in confusion.
โThereโs no solid evidence against her,โ he said. โAll the suspicions are just Elizabethโs assumptions.โ
He continued, โItโs like if your wallet is stolen on the street and you choose the person who looks the most like a thief. If a suspicious-looking guy with ragged clothes passes by, does that mean he should prove he isnโt a thief just because you suspect him? He might just call you crazy.โ
โMiranda,โ Paul looked at her intently. โYou can uncover the truth, but never put yourself in a position where you have to prove your own innocence.โ
At that moment, she was struck by his strong logic and reason.
โOh, right,โ Sandy said, smacking her forehead. โWhy should Miranda have to prove sheโs innocent? Isnโt it up to the accuser to provide evidence?โ
Everyone turned their attention to Elizabeth.
Her smile faltered. She couldnโt understand why things were spiraling out of control. โIโI was just suspicious,โ she said, nervously swallowing. โI didnโt actually say Miranda did it.โ
Paul said, โIf thatโs the case, we should call the police.โ
Sandy nodded. โI agree.โ
Silas raised his hand. โI think thatโs the right call.โ
โOkay.โ Paul took out his phone.
Elizabethโs eyes flickered. She wanted to speak but hesitated, worried about worsening things.
Just as Paul was about to dial, she nervously bit her lip, and her palms started to sweat.
At that moment, Bryan, who had remained silent, stepped forward. โUhโฆ I just remembered that I used Lizzyโs computer yesterday before leaving.โ
He scratched his head and continued, โI deleted some files and emptied the recycle bin. I might have accidentally deleted the folder where she stored her data. Iโm really sorry for causing all this trouble.โ
He apologized and then turned to Elizabeth. โIโm sorry for making you redo everything.โ
โItโs fine,โ she said stiffly.
Sandy eyed them suspiciously. She hesitated before saying, โGood, the misunderstanding is cleared up. Bry, be more careful next time.โ
โYes, definitely,โ he replied.
Miranda withdrew her gaze indifferently. โIf thereโs nothing else, Iโll get back to work.โ She didnโt bring up helping Elizabeth with the data recovery.
Why should I be the bigger person when all Iโve received is unfairness? she thought.
Then, she turned to leave. Just then, she met Paulโs concerned gaze. She smiled faintly and silently mouthed a few words.
โThank you.โ
