Chapter 0276
Sam shrugged and quickly admitted, โIโve been taking it easy lately, so yeah, Iโm not up for it.โ
Hanselโs attempt at a jab didnโt get the reaction he wanted; instead, it backfired and left him feeling frustrated.
โSam Cooper, are you really this spineless? No fight, no temper? Are you even a man?โ
โFirst of all, drinking has nothing to do with having guts or a temper. Secondly, whether Iโm a man or not is something even the blind could see.โ
Hansel scoffed. โIs this how you went after Miranda? By lecturing her?โ
โNo, no, no.โ Sam shook his finger with a smirk. โSheโs really reasonable, so thereโs no need.โ
โOh? Then what do you talk about?โ
โWe talk about experiences, fun stories, professional knowledge, poetry, philosophy, or evenโฆ romantic things. Thereโs so much to discuss; itโs hard to list it all at once.โ
Hansel felt a sting at that.
Upon noticing this, Sam twisted the knife further, โWanna hear more? We can set up a time, and Iโll share all the details.โ
Losing ground verbally, Hansel resorted to drowning his drink in silence. After two shots of tequila, he started feeling a bit tipsy. He loosened his tie and undid the top two buttons of his shirt.
Watching him drink like that, Sam frowned. โHave your stomach issues cleared up?โ
โNo.โ
โFigures. Mirandaโs gone. No oneโs keeping an eye on you, so youโre just letting yourself go, huh?โ
Sam bringing up Miranda stung Hansel even worse; his eyes and nose burned; he was even on the verge of tearing up. He tried to brush it off as just the alcohol affecting him.
Suddenly, Hansel muttered, โ12 boxes.โ
โโฆWhat does that even mean?โ Sam asked in confusion.
Hansel kept his head down, making it impossible for Sam to read his expression. โSince she left, Iโve gone through 12 boxes of stomach pain medicine,โ Hansel mumbled.
Samโs eyes darkened. โLooks like you have a death wish. Do you think that by wrecking yourself like this, sheโll feel sorry for you? Or that sheโll come back?โ
โWhy wouldnโt she?โ Hansel snapped his head up, his eyes now bloodshot with anger.
Sam scoffed. โIf thatโs really what you think, then it just proves that you never understood Miranda at all.โ
He gestured for the waiter and calmly instructed, โTake away all the alcohol. Bring us two cups of tea.โ
โUhโฆโ The waiter hesitated. โSir, we donโt serve normal tea here at the barโฆโ
Samโs gaze turned serious. โThen bring two glasses of water. You have that, right?โ
โYes, yes, of course. Please wait a moment.โ The waiter quickly cleared the drinks and soon set down two cups of warm water in front of them.
Hansel smirked bitterly. โYou think I donโt understand Miranda? Who the hell are you to say that? I was with her for six years! Six years, do you get that!โ
โNo need to shout. Iโm well aware of how long you two were together. And so what? If you spent six years with her and still didnโt truly understand her, that only shows your negligence and failure. To put it bluntly, you didnโt love her enough.โ
โBullshit!โ Hansel suddenly erupted. โI loved her more than anyone!โ
Sam looked up with a steady gaze. โIf you loved her, why did you break up with her?โ
Hansel was tongue-tied.
โSee, every word you say contradicts itself. Every action you take is just digging your own grave. Love isnโt about who shouts the loudest. So what if itโs been six years? All you did was spend six years losing her.โ
When the veil of denial was lifted, the harsh reality lay bare, all raw and bloody. The truth was as brutal as a knife.
Sam continued, โYou keep saying you love her, but every single thing you did was to trample on her. To trample on her wishes, her dignity, and evenโฆ her body.โ
