Chapter 0290
Zach said, โThat time at the hotel, remember how you helped me out? Iโm the kind of person who pays back favors. Even though you and Hansel broke up, a favor is a favor. I have to return it.โ
He had been out smoking for about ten to twenty minutes, and yet Miranda hadnโt thought of calling him directly? Calvin had clearly mentioned that he had the right connections, and good ones at that!
What was Miranda missing? Was she looking down on him?
Zach couldnโt help but scoff. โYouโre looking for a reliable editor, right? Iโll send you one in a while.โ
Miranda wasnโt someone to turn down a sincere offer, nor was she about to play coy. When a resource was served on a silver platter, only a fool would say no.
โThank you,โ she said.
โJust repaying the favor.โ
After hanging up, Zach quickly pulled up the editorโs contact on WhatsApp, ready to send it over to Miranda. But then he realizedโMiranda had never even replied to him on WhatsApp before!
He called her back. โUh, have you always ignored my messages? Donโt worry, okay? Iโm not like Sam, who has ulterior motives toward a buddyโs ex.โ
โIf it makes you uncomfortable, Iโll send you the contact, and you can delete my contact again afterward.โ
Miranda replied, โPlease send me the contact.โ
โAlright.โ
Zach sent over the contact and put away his phone, heading back to the private room.
Calvin looked up. โYou were gone so long. Did you fall into the toilet or something?โ
โShut up!โ
The woman who had been with Zach earlier smiled and sidled up to him. โZach, you left me behind.โ
โIf I didnโt leave you, should I have taken you into the menโs room with me?โ He patted her cheek playfully.
She pouted at him in mock annoyance. โZach, book me for the night, wonโt you?โ
Zach gave her a mischievous look but didnโt commit.
Her smile faltered slightly, revealing a hint of disappointment.
These rich men were generous, no doubt. They knew how to charm women, but when they turned cold, they were truly heartless.
Their hearts were simply made of stone!
By the time they wrapped up, it was almost dawn. As the three of them walked to the barโs entrance, Zach asked, โHow are you two getting home?โ
Hansel replied, โI called for a driver.โ
โI didnโt drive today, so Iโll just grab a cab. What about you?โ Calvin asked.
โIโm going to stay at a hotel tonight,โ Zach replied.
Calvin smirked. โDoesnโt sound like youโgoing to a hotel without bringing a woman along?โ
Zach scoffed. โIf I wanted one, I could have one with just a call.โ
โTake it easy, man.โ Calvin winced. โDonโt overdo it and end up getting sick.โ
โRelax, I know my limits. Hey, my carโs here, Iโm heading out.โ
โWait a sec,โ Calvin pulled him back. โYou heard on the call earlier. Miranda asked for help finding a reliable editor. Did youโฆ?โ
โYeah, yeah, stop nagging. I already sent it to her,โ Zach replied impatiently.
โHuh? When? I didnโt hear anything.โ Calvin looked surprised.
โWhile I was โfalling into the toilet,โ as you put it.โ
โWait, you didnโt even have each otherโs contact info? How did you manage that?โ
Zach rolled his eyes. โEver heard of asking?โ
โHold on a second! This doesnโt add upโyou were never this eager to help. Donโt tell me youโre turning into another Samโฆโ
โStop right there!โ Zach quickly interrupted, glancing nervously at Hansel standing nearby.
Sure enough, Hanselโs expression was dark as coal.
โIโm helping Miranda purely to return a favor. Donโt go pinning Samโs mess on me!โ Zach insisted. One Sam was enough; the last thing he needed was a second.
There were plenty of women in the world. Why obsess over a friendโs? Even if she was an ex, it still didnโt sit right with Zach.
Calvin breathed a sigh of relief. โThatโs more like itโฆโ
โNow let me go; Iโm getting in my car.โ
โAlright,โ Calvin released him.
Suddenly, Hansel spoke up, โAre you helping her because of our friendship?โ
Zach paused with his hand on the car door, then turned and laughed, โActually, no.โ
Hanselโs gaze shifted between Calvin and Zach, suspicious and scrutinizing. โSo, even after we broke up, youโve continued to stay in contact withโฆ?โ
