Chapter 0290

Zach said, โ€œThat time at the hotel, remember how you helped me out? Iโ€™m the kind of person who pays back favors. Even though you and Hansel broke up, a favor is a favor. I have to return it.โ€

He had been out smoking for about ten to twenty minutes, and yet Miranda hadnโ€™t thought of calling him directly? Calvin had clearly mentioned that he had the right connections, and good ones at that!

What was Miranda missing? Was she looking down on him?

Zach couldnโ€™t help but scoff. โ€œYouโ€™re looking for a reliable editor, right? Iโ€™ll send you one in a while.โ€

Miranda wasnโ€™t someone to turn down a sincere offer, nor was she about to play coy. When a resource was served on a silver platter, only a fool would say no.

โ€œThank you,โ€ she said.

โ€œJust repaying the favor.โ€

After hanging up, Zach quickly pulled up the editorโ€™s contact on WhatsApp, ready to send it over to Miranda. But then he realizedโ€”Miranda had never even replied to him on WhatsApp before!

He called her back. โ€œUh, have you always ignored my messages? Donโ€™t worry, okay? Iโ€™m not like Sam, who has ulterior motives toward a buddyโ€™s ex.โ€

โ€œIf it makes you uncomfortable, Iโ€™ll send you the contact, and you can delete my contact again afterward.โ€

Miranda replied, โ€œPlease send me the contact.โ€

โ€œAlright.โ€

Zach sent over the contact and put away his phone, heading back to the private room.

Calvin looked up. โ€œYou were gone so long. Did you fall into the toilet or something?โ€

โ€œShut up!โ€

The woman who had been with Zach earlier smiled and sidled up to him. โ€œZach, you left me behind.โ€

โ€œIf I didnโ€™t leave you, should I have taken you into the menโ€™s room with me?โ€ He patted her cheek playfully.

She pouted at him in mock annoyance. โ€œZach, book me for the night, wonโ€™t you?โ€

Zach gave her a mischievous look but didnโ€™t commit.

Her smile faltered slightly, revealing a hint of disappointment.

These rich men were generous, no doubt. They knew how to charm women, but when they turned cold, they were truly heartless.

Their hearts were simply made of stone!

By the time they wrapped up, it was almost dawn. As the three of them walked to the barโ€™s entrance, Zach asked, โ€œHow are you two getting home?โ€

Hansel replied, โ€œI called for a driver.โ€

โ€œI didnโ€™t drive today, so Iโ€™ll just grab a cab. What about you?โ€ Calvin asked.

โ€œIโ€™m going to stay at a hotel tonight,โ€ Zach replied.

Calvin smirked. โ€œDoesnโ€™t sound like youโ€”going to a hotel without bringing a woman along?โ€

Zach scoffed. โ€œIf I wanted one, I could have one with just a call.โ€

โ€œTake it easy, man.โ€ Calvin winced. โ€œDonโ€™t overdo it and end up getting sick.โ€

โ€œRelax, I know my limits. Hey, my carโ€™s here, Iโ€™m heading out.โ€

โ€œWait a sec,โ€ Calvin pulled him back. โ€œYou heard on the call earlier. Miranda asked for help finding a reliable editor. Did youโ€ฆ?โ€

โ€œYeah, yeah, stop nagging. I already sent it to her,โ€ Zach replied impatiently.

โ€œHuh? When? I didnโ€™t hear anything.โ€ Calvin looked surprised.

โ€œWhile I was โ€˜falling into the toilet,โ€™ as you put it.โ€

โ€œWait, you didnโ€™t even have each otherโ€™s contact info? How did you manage that?โ€

Zach rolled his eyes. โ€œEver heard of asking?โ€

โ€œHold on a second! This doesnโ€™t add upโ€”you were never this eager to help. Donโ€™t tell me youโ€™re turning into another Samโ€ฆโ€

โ€œStop right there!โ€ Zach quickly interrupted, glancing nervously at Hansel standing nearby.

Sure enough, Hanselโ€™s expression was dark as coal.

โ€œIโ€™m helping Miranda purely to return a favor. Donโ€™t go pinning Samโ€™s mess on me!โ€ Zach insisted. One Sam was enough; the last thing he needed was a second.

There were plenty of women in the world. Why obsess over a friendโ€™s? Even if she was an ex, it still didnโ€™t sit right with Zach.

Calvin breathed a sigh of relief. โ€œThatโ€™s more like itโ€ฆโ€

โ€œNow let me go; Iโ€™m getting in my car.โ€

โ€œAlright,โ€ Calvin released him.

Suddenly, Hansel spoke up, โ€œAre you helping her because of our friendship?โ€

Zach paused with his hand on the car door, then turned and laughed, โ€œActually, no.โ€

Hanselโ€™s gaze shifted between Calvin and Zach, suspicious and scrutinizing. โ€œSo, even after we broke up, youโ€™ve continued to stay in contact withโ€ฆ?โ€
